Default Do fans make a team popular/unpopular ?

I don't entirely by this logic that, I don't like your team/players because your fans suck.
Specially when this comes from Indo-Pak fans.
I mean, I like SA because of Amla,AB,Steyn,Miller or NZ because of Kane,BMc,Guptill,Corey.
Will I stop supporting these teams if their fans become as annoying as fans from sub continent ? No.
The Afgun team is doing really good, improving fast, but I don't like their team because of some of their beyadop players like Shehzad or others.
I don't feel the same for Srilanka as I did before as their current team lacks class.
But this has nothing to do with their fans.

Our fans do like to rub it in after beating a good team, it makes sense as most of these countries made fun of us when we were losing, saw this line everywhere in 2013-14 " BD,good at winning hearts, lungs, kidneys"
Our hospitality was our reputation as fans, but since we are winning we have also started to treat others the way they treated us.
But do fans contribute to the popularity of a team or is it just about the players?

Problem is they look down on us. So even if we simply celebrating our victory they take it as an offence.

Hence, that's why I say we rub it in, no harm giving it back to them.

Oh hell yeah. Who cares what they think of us or if they support our team or not.
On the other hand, it will be better for our cricket if they hate us. It will create a rivalry, means more interest in BD matches. Equal to more money!!
I say piss them off more and help out cricket.

I dont have much problem about rubbing it in but I also enjoy good sportsmanship, camaraderie among players.
So why fans are making it look like its a war? Why so much bitterness? Why not we show good spirit? I think at some point we should forget about how others look at us and concentrate on how we look at others .

Indian fans from what I can see if you criticize India which is not hard, then the racist card gets called, just my experience on other forums.
Teams and their organisations have 2 be up for critcismv if they deserve it.
And Indian fans use the racist card whenever you criticize India.

Good post Simon. Some really good examples.

Fans do not make any difference. Simply because of this fact: Not all fans are alike! Just check out the diversity of opinions here in BC. How we all can approach a single issue from multiple angles. So for every fan that is turning you off, keep looking, and soon you will bump across one that garners your admiration.

Not just fans, but even countries should not make a difference. But I tell you, it's really difficult to like anything Pakistani after what they did to us in 1971. But despite that, you have to give credit where credit is due. So if any Pak player impresses me, I do not hold his nation's past against him.

Oh, I believe it. Millennials are mostly very apathetic to history. I'm not saying it's a bad thing either.

Timely thread. I have been to pakpassion where fans are like "BD are playing a very good brand of cricket, better than our team but don't want them to win because of arrogant fans"

WHAT.

When on Earth did maturity of fans get to determined whether you are inclined to support a team or not. You support a team based on how good they are, how pleasing are they on your eyes, their behaviour, their struggles, etc and why on the basis of an entity that is far beyond their control?

^+1 well said.

Also they need to visit fb. See on our players pages how bad Indian fans are. BD fans never start nor be abusive like the Indians. We just give it back when you cross the limit- makes us bad and you the victims? Funny logic, I say.

Bah ... Keep on being the victims. Minnows will be minnows.

Respect is earned not given. Every team did it the hard way by winning world tournaments. Though I hate Lankans they have my respect for playing the hard cricket and winning cups. What has BD achieved you guys expect something from other countries fans ?

Abuse? Don't get me started on this. India/ BCCI done so much for the cricket team in BD when everyone making fun of you it's the BCCI support that kept you in ICC .

Not @ you sumon da.

Fan is short for fanatic. Fans are supposed to be a-les, arrogant, cocky, impulsive and what not. But coming from some folks who comment on Cricinfo which routinely gets published is damned stupid.

Sure you (and even some of us Bangaldeshis) may believe one should be humble and what not virtuous things, but don't expect to force your views on others and expect others to follow the same philosophy as you.

BD team is working hard to achieve it. Everything needs time. We will get there eventually.

We are not vying for your respect. Our team is doing well and over time the TEAM will earn the respect that they deserve by playing well consistenly. Nobody cares about who you love and hate or any of your feelings in general. We talk up our team here because this is our forum. No matter whatever crap you guys dish out in the forum will have no impact what so ever on how i admire Ganguly Tendulkar, Yuvi etc. At the end of the day you are not playing for india nor am i playing for Bangladesh so just grow a thicker skin if you want to visit foreign team's forums
