Default HP Squad 2016-17 Announced

HP squad revealed

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced a 24-member High Performance (HP) squad yesterday for the 2016-17 season. It was the last squad that was prepared by the Faruque Ahmed-led selection committee.

“Actually the squad was prepared during the last committee and we just made a little adjustment as players like Saikat [Mosaddek Hossain] were considered for the national camp from the previous HP squad,” said Minhajul Abedin, chairman of new national selection panel.

“We formed the squad eyeing some immediate needs and also looking into the long-term demands of the national team,” he added.

The new selection panel, which will be lead by the selection committee's convener, Akram Khan, however, submitted its first squad --a 30-member preliminary squad for the national camp which will begin from July 20.

HP SQUAD

Shadman Islam, Mehedi Hassan Maruf, Abdul Majid (top order batsmen), Mehidy Hassan Miraz, Saif Hassan, Nazmul Hossain Shanto, Al-Amin, Tasamul Haque (middle order batsmen), Sanjamul Islam, Nur Hossain, Tanvir Haider Khan, Saqlain Sajib (spin bowlers), Mehidy Hassan, Shaif Uddin, Alauddin Babu (all-rounders), Ashiquzzaman, Mehede Hasan Rana, Shuvashis Roy, Noor Alam Saddam, Abu Haider Rony, Dewan Shabbir Ahmed, Ebadot Hossain Chowdhury (pace bowlers), Irfan Shukur and Zakir Hasan (wicketkeepers).

The Dhaka Tribune -
http://www.dhakatribune.com/cricket/....llZr05yl.dpuf

The BCB has named a 24-member High Performance squad for 2016 that will begin training from July 17 at the National Cricket Academy facilities in Mirpur. It will be the first assignment for new head coach Simon Helmot who was appointed earlier this month.

Apart from the initial fitness and skill training phases, the HP squad is likely to work under specialist coaches and undertake a tour in September.

Seven players including Saqlain Sajib are in this squad for the second year running. Saqlain is also one of two international players in the squad. The other being left-arm paceman Abu Haider.

The newcomers include Dhaka Premier League performers Abdul Mazid, Al Amin, Mehedi Maruf, Nazmul Hossain Shanto and Sanjamul Islam. There are also six players who have graduated from the Under-19 team.

Dhaka Tribune has learned that the inclusion of Noor Hossain and Tanveer Haider is due to coach Chandika Hathurusingha’s proclivity towards leg-spinners though Tanveer is mainly a batsman.

Mehedi Hasan, who struck a century on the first day of the DPL, has also been included among the spinners.

Pace bowler Ebadat Hossain is the only one to have no senior level playing experience. He appeared for City Club last season but his claim to fame was through the Robi Fast Bowler Hunt this year.

So, Saikat (Mosaddek Hossain) is not included in the HP squad and looks like he will be included in the next national team camp - as per Minhajul Abedin Nannu, chairman of new national selection panel.

Ebadot hossain was the fastest in robi pacer hunt but he was not the most consistent or have the best variety. I am surprised that he is picked ahead of some of the others in pacer hunt.

Any idea who's in the team other than shanto and Shadman? Shanto continues to play long innings, did it in Australia as well.
