Not you Mossadek? The hell's going wrong?

In our recent podcast that we did with Al Furqan( will edit and upload tomorrow hopefully), in my notes, I had a question on the discipline of the team (Tamim,Shakib, Mushfiq, Shahadat, Shabbir, Nurul, Rubel, Al Amin, I am sure I am missing others). But I scrapped it in the last minute, thinking it was too silly a topic. Now I'm thinking there is more to it.

This far more than just discipline.

Aftab and Shakib are examples of lazy cricketers. One is a international failure, the other a world class all-rounder. Fair enough.

But Sabbir, Shahadat - if the allegations against them are true are displaying alarming degrees of sociopathy and should be axed from the team.

If the allegations against Mosaddek are true, the same would be said of him. Abuse of any kind should have a zero tolerance policy.

That being said if he's selected, I'll still root for him as a batsmen, bowler, or fielder but resent him as a person.

"Bangladesh cricketer Mosaddek accused of torture by wife for dowry"

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Rosina Khan ordered the Sadar Upazila executive officer or UNO to investigate the case after admitting the charges brought by Mosaddek’s wife Sharmin Samira Usha on Sunday.
Mosaddek has been torturing Usha for dowry for a long time, said Rezaul Karim Dulal, her lawyer.
“He (Mosaddek) tortured her and drove her out of home for Tk 1 million in dowry on Aug 15,” the lawyer said.
The middle-order batsman, who made his bow in international cricket in 2016, is in the Bangladesh squad announced for the upcoming Asia Cup tournament. The 22-year-old married his cousin Usha six years ago.
He did not take calls from bdnews24.com for comments on the case.
“They have been in disagreement since they married,” Mosaddek’s brother Mosabber Hossain Moon said.
Mosaddek sent her a divorce letter on Aug 15, Mosabber said.
But she demanded more money than mentioned in the marriage documents as ‘Denmohar’ or dower, the brother claimed.
“She has started the case after spreading false and misleading information as she did not get the money,” he added.

So there is two side of the story. He said, She said.

22 years of age got married 6 years back. That's 16 for Mosaddek. His "khalato" cousin, I wonder how old she was back then. The parents need to be investigated for "Ballo Bibaho". What is the law in BD? You have be 14?

Legal age for marriage is 18. So one of two things is true. Moss's real age is 24 or the parents blatantly broke the law. If BD had any respect for their ow laws, thee parents would be arrested.

Am I the only one who is disgusted by the practice of marrying your cousin?

You can read up on Child marriage Restraint Act (2017).

Good point!!

If I am not mistaken its 21 for male and 18 for female. But then BD idiotic politicians passed a law in 2017 where females can marry with parental consent and permission of court. Mossadek under both time periods would have been illegible although his wife would be legible under the new law but how it works in Bangladesh if a case was made against the parent's is anybody's guess.

Dont know why Hasina and her goons passed this law

IMO I dont encourage marriage between cousins.

I knew a girl who married her first cousin. Her shoshur baari is on another floor of the building they live in. Sadly the marriage didnt last.

Also I heard it may cause issues for the resulting offspring.

I know its quite common practise among Pakistanis to do this though.

wtf, this is rubbish. Are you telling me even a minor (13-14 years age) can get married with this so called "parental permission". I am really speechless if this is the case here.

18, hmmm. In Arkansas, A girl can get married at 16 years of age with Parents consent. Boys, 17 with Parents consent.

In Massachusetts, with Parents consent, legally a 12 year old girl can get married. 14 for the boys. (2018)

https://www.law.cornell.edu/wex/table_marriage
In Mississippi, 15 year old can get married WITHOUT consent.
In Missouri and Hawaii, 15 with Consent, New Hampshire, 14 for Boys - 13 for Girls with Consent. Most states have 16 with consent.

Even 18 is not an age to get married let alone 14 15 yr olds. These parents need to be jailed

Sad but true. There was quite an international outrage when this loophole was proposed in 2014. Don’t really understand why this was done. Hasina endorsed child marriages.

Hasina endorsed child marriage because Awamileague is in bed with Hefazot..... I am not going to go into details.. the facts are well documented.

Only positive is that a judge must also agree to it.

Since you didn’t go into details your analogy or justification does not make sense to me.

I thought you only contribute to religious threads though 🙂

Dont intend to... but this is bullying.... Being a moderator you should not resort to such antics ... We both live in a western society and subscribe to the same modern values I hope.

If Mosaddek asked for dowry, than it is a crime. If he married 6 years back than it was not a crime as per the law at the time (from my understanding). Unfortunately our society is blind to this kind of criminal practice. Dowry is a not just common but it is the norm in rural areas in Bangladesh.

I
Mossadek is 22 now. 6 years back he would have been 16 years so that wasn’t legal age at the time. Maybe it might be legal age for some areas in the USA but not in Bangladesh.

Sadly I agree society and justice system are blind towards child marriages and dowry system.
