Default Why Mithun Ali is so highly rated by foreign BPL players?

Afridi and Md Shazad spoke highly about Mithun ali. They think he should be included in national team. Mithun s BPL performance was good and also played mature innings.

Are we missing a bradman here?

Go back and look at all his innings during the Asia Cup and T20 WC last year, when he was brought in as a 'T20 Specialist' and you tell me

I was scarred.

Does this this ring a bell?

Who is Mithun and why is he in the squad?

The thread actually went over 5 pages...I think

IMO t20 players regardless of format go over the top on compliment s when a player does well especially their own team mates.

Mithun Ali is not an international level player but more suited to playing for domestic teams like Farhad Reza and Shahriar Nafees. If any player deserves to be in the national team he will get picked by the selectors regardless of what foreign players say our how he performs in a sub standard t20 tournament.

m not a fan of Mithun Ali. very edgy kinda batsman and doesnt have the technique compared to so many others that dont get the opportunity.

Having said that, Mithun Ali couldve done a lot better if he wasnt introduced at such a crucial stage. Unless there are simply NO other options, a player shouldnt be tested at such a crucial tournament. Its nervy enough for the existing players. Imagine what it was like him. Most of these games he also debuted with another guy that was possibly even more nervy then he was (Soumya). Doesnt help that he had to bat the hardest batting slot which isnt even his natural slot.

It was plain unfair to select him for Asia Cup against teams like India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka where the pitches were far from batting friendly. It was nothing short of insanity to select him for a crucial stage like the WC right after in conditions we have never played before against THE best teams of the game!

He looked pretty solid in this BPL. Shows he has been working hard. He is still far away from being in contention specially with players like Mehedi Maruf, Nazmul, Nafees, Mominul performing so well for being backups. But if he keeps improving, maybe in future he will make a case of returning to the T20 squad

since when Shahriar nafees is a domestic player? Most of his success came in international matches

Are there quotes from which foreign players talked about Mithun Ali?

For someone who is not so well built or strong, Mithun seems to be able to hit sixes well.

Yes he had that power in his bottom hand to hit sixes regularly.

But by all means the opinions of hacks like Shehzad and Afridi don't matter. If someone like Azhar Ali or Nabi said I would believe it.

Mithun doesn't have the technique. Anyone who watches his stance will be able to identify serious flaws. Same goes to Nasir. I am shocked how some people find Nasir technically correct. He is far from that.

^^MHRAM bro, with all due respect...if we're going to judge a batsman by his stance...then it's best we don't judge him at all...

Chanderpaul, Steve smith, George bailey, Clayton lambert, etc...

Were they anomalies?

You don't need techniques for t20 tbh

But their strokeplay were textbook to an extent. Nothing unorthodox about Chanpderpaul's sweep or his cut shots. Or his defensive strokes either.

For which he needed to make up with his RBW, strike rotation, agricultural shots, big hitting.

Unfortunately, in the matches he played for BD he didn't prove himself

Once again MHRAM bro, with all due respect...you mentioned a line about stance...

"Anyone who watches his stance will be able to identify serious flaws"

I'm a person who prefers to look past that.

If you go and check the archives, when Shiv debuted in '94, his stance was more crab-like and very grotesque.

But then again, Mithun's stance look looked proper as compared with Shiv's.

Conclusion: a batsman can be considered legendary or atrocious, regardless of what his batting stance looks like.

Maybe he realized his mistake and the sissiness in international cricket, hence rectified the flaws ?

Change is welcome. Needs to do more though. I aint overly pleased like I have been with Maruf and Nafees. Yes Nafees disappointed in the 3rd leg of BPL but at 3 he is a good option, his experience is immense and we need a calm head at three. Number 3 for t20s and ODI isn't sorted. Sabbir is far to risky for 3. Plus Nafees is very good against spin and in desi condition he will be very good.

Time to bump up the thread. Mithun this year is the leading local batsman in BPL. Has he done enough to get another go with the T20I team?

Absolutely. Deserves a second chance.

Easy replacement for Imrul Kayes/Mushfiqur Rahim.

Players get matured with time. This is his best format. Don't select him for test and then drop him from T20 team

Yawn. Been there done that. Maybe he will get another opportunity in the national team, but will get exposed again and dropped. Fringe player.

I think he will struggle in T20I he gets time to get going against quality opposition I think he would do poorly.

In ODI I think he has a shot maybe at #3

His t20 record is pretty poor...actually he has much better list A and FC records.

Consistency needs to be made a priority in selection otherwise there will just be a lot of one hit wonders or short lived wonder boys.
