Default SL vs SA

SL has lost Sanath Jayasuriya. Star Sports is showing the test series and the one day series; now SL are 5 down.

Now I know that we haven't done too badly in our very first tour (well 2nd tour actually - if you count our first tour in which we didn't play the South African national team).

O I think we did excellent in SA. I didnt want to say anything and jinx them during the serise, but now, I can talk.

After the India test, this was the only serise, that satisfied me. I am happy. After a long time, I didnt feel ashamed when BD lost.

GO BD.

Gibbs hurt his back when warming up for the game.

Yeah... this shows how well Bangladesh batsmen did on your tour.

Default SA 5 down

That's the difference between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka has Hashanta Fernando a debutant who always bowls line and length and Bangladesh do not have anyone like that.

Bowlers like Vaas and Muralitharan comes through their age and with their experience, they had taken their wickets, but it is the guys like all rounder Hashanta Fernando who we need to produce.

It was his debut test match and after his 3 wicket haul in the one day series against Bangladesh, in which match, Bangladesh was bowled out for 77 in the 2nd One Day International, it has now become clear to me that this is where we lack.

Monju is our best line and length pacer, but he was the oldest paceman in our bowling line up in South Africa. So, he was bound to be maintaining a good line and length - which he did.

I have a little hope now that may be, just may be, Mushfiqur Rahman Babu is like that kind of a pacer. Only he is injured now and is NOT on his way to a recovery.

Agreed - the most significant differance between Bang and Sri is in the Bowling department. You have 3 or 4 batsmen who are of reasonable test quality, but your bowlers would all struggle at our (SA) club level.

But your bowlers all have potential, they just need to learn to bowl consistently. And you need better coaching with regard to fielding positions and bowling plans. From what I've seen, with a bit of experience, you'll be on a similar level with NZ and Zim in 2 or 3 years.

Keep the faith.

Default Mushfiq ? Naah

He is good only on home soil and hasn't really produced anything to make him stand out specially with Talha and Taposh leading the pack. Mushfiq is also close to his 30's if I am not mistaken. He has been around for a while. He is more experienced than half of the players in the national team if you count the nuber of years he has been around.

Default SL fare worse than Bangladesh

SL blown away for 130 in the 2nd innings, within 3 days.

Maybe they will now stop howling for taking away Bangladesh's test status, at least until we do ourselves in against WI.

How did we end up talking about Mushfiq, a complete non-factor, in this thread on SL vs SA?

Forget this thread, Mushfiq should be a non-factor in any selection discussion.

As for the Test match, it has made it quite clear that our batting isn't too far off while our bowling needs some serious improvement. I am hoping though that with Talha gaining some experience and Masri back, we can find a pair of decent quickies. Taposh is pretty good as well. They just need to stay in the team and learn as they go on.

I have to say though that just because SL got blown away doesn't mean that they are as crap as us. Atapattu, Sangakkara, Jayawardene and Tillekaratne are all very good batmen, and sooner or later they will click. It just proves that south asian teams will always struggle to cope in SA and Australia.

Default I was the culprit

It was me - I was the culprit of pushing the name of Mushfique on this thread.

Whatever you - anybody on this board say, I will not forget Mushfique, not Mafizur Rahman Munna, not Neeyamur Rashid Rahul. These mini-allrounders according to Bangladesh standards are what Akram Khan used to be when he was 20-21. Remember he used to bowl medium pacers until Jayasuriya smacked him for over 30 odd runs in his just 1 over in 97 Asia cup?

If our pitches were like South Africa, or even like English pitches, these all-rounders would have been in Bangladesh side on a permanent basis.

Don't forget, Khaled Mahmud Sujon is also in current national side - who is a lot more experienced and he has other qualities like his fighting spirit, he is also an old Mushfiqur Rahman.

If these current all rounders and all rounders in the future who will be similar to these guys, can be nurtured properly, with good batting technique and a little help in their bowling, these guys could be Hashanta Fernandos in the future.

Default :)

Apart from Mafizur Munna, the other two are close to 30s. How can they be our Fernando ? Compared to them, Fernando is still a baby.

Yes, Asian teams are either to busy politic-ing or back stabbing each other (only Pakistan though), that there is hardly enough planning for oversea's enviros.

Pakistan had always managed to or sometimes even bridge the gap with their tardiness, but for the others, its always been stuff like the "Murali factor" or "Tendulkar Force."

Hence, this is my BD thought of the day -

Its good that BD is struggling now with its bowlers, and to overcome that are searching or trying to make pacers. Maybe 5-7 years from now the country will have even better fasties after the currently 15 year old's draw enough inspiration from the likes of MASRI/TALHAS.

I really would like BD to not get stigmatized as a country with not enough spunk, meat etc to produce fast bowlers, like er.....

..and hence even if Baisha (Taposh) resembles an Agarkar, thank god he doesn't resemble a Duleep Doshi !

Default Mushfique is only 22 on papers

Mushfiqur Rahman
Born: 1 January 1980, Rajshahi
Major Teams: Rajshahi Division, Bangladesh.
Known As: Mushfiqur Rahman
Also Known As: Babu
Batting Style: Right Hand Bat
Bowling Style: Right Arm Fast Medium

Source: http://www-usa.cricket.org/link_to_d...HMAN_25011246/

But in order to get a Hashanta Fernando in Mushfiqur Rahman in a quick time - say before he is 30 on papers or in reality, we need to convert our pitches - AT LEAST 1 of our pitches to a pacy wicket.
