Default New Year New Strategy

This was just a start. We have a tough year coming ahead and BCB will need to act FAST to make sure we dont repeat our old self (Pre 2015). Just thought I would share and hear what can be done to turn around after a complete wash against the Kiwis.

1) Hire a spin coach. High time really. Get someone who can work with all the boys in the Nats team, the academy side, the under 19 boys and so on. A team like India got away years after years with sub par seam attacks by having a good spin attack. We are already ahead in that seamers race. Need to strengthen our spin attack because these non SC teams are weak against good spinners.

2) Get a more proactive selector who could really add value and provide accurate feedback and data to Haturida for making better selections. I nominate someone like Khaled Masud Pilot or even Habibul Bashar. Need to stop this ridiculous debut and drop young players. We may not win games now but by bringing in these young players when they arent ready, we are ruining the future

3) Sit down with Walsh. Give him the expectation and ask him to provide a clear outline for the development of our seamers. Enough of sitting back and waiting for a miracle to happen. Walsh needs to get in the field, spend good hours with the seamers. We want to see clear improvement in pace, accuracy, fitness, swing, variation on some of these players. Streak had an upward curve going since series 1 and I dont think the expectation should be any less for Walsh who has a bigger pull of seamers then Streak did.

4) Sit down with the seniors. Its time to give them some hard words. As an employer, its time to breath fire on them. And that includes Tamim, Shakib, Riyad, Mushy. Also sit down with Mash and talk about his plans and what he lacked in those last 2 ODI and 1 T20 series which we lost.

5) Introduce some kind of incentive program for good performance. Money talks and its a universal truth. Seems like our players aren't trying hard, training hard and just happy to be in the team. That culture needs to change for the team to become a top team down the road!

Guys feel free to share your ideas. And lets not make this a Drop him, pick him thread.

I agree with all of your proposals.
I would add the following:
i) Do not send Mustafiz to any T20 leagues including IPL. We cannot nurse him back to health and then have him injured.

ii) Send all National Players to FC cricket and ask them to score centuries. Tell them we dont want dhum dharakka centuries... we want to see 200 balls played for each batsman whatever the score

iii) Bring in Test specialist players in place of ODI and T20 specialists. This includes dropping Shabbir, Soumiya. Ryad needs to be put on notice to get dropped. If he cannot deliver consistently and he really hasn't so far and so we have to start all over again with someone new. Tough choice but probably has to happen.

iv) Think of a top six without Shakib. I know he scored a double but he doesn't bat with any responsibility so he does not deserve a top six batting slot. He can bat as carelessly as he wants at number 7.

v) Fire Samaraweera and Walsh and fielding coach. We need special attention to slips catching. We need a specialist batting coach for our Tail. We need our pace bowling back to 2015 levels in terms of control and discipline. The tail is just simply too weak for us to be competitive against better sides specially in ODIs.

I love that one... Its high time we get proper batsmen rather then Shak who is an allrounder. Cant depend on him to build an innings

Samaraweera and Halsall should be fired for sure.

Too bad we can't send our players across the border to play domestics in the Indian circuit, the quality in BD just doesn't help our players

I think we need to focus a lot of energy and also spend a lot more on our age level cricket system. Lets spend on good international coaches, ground facilities and foreign tours. The current bunch (Saif and co) do not give the indication of a bright future ahead of us. U 19 team is like a window into the future 5 years from now. If the U19 can win pressure games.. and by that i mean win knockout games against top oppositions.. then we know these guys have the right mental toughness for future national team duties.

Too often we would find us thrashing a big team at home with our dhudh vaat spinners on slow and low tracks only to get knocked out in ICC tournaments. We need to break this trend and reach finals of major tournaments and win a few. We need to do that at the age group level so that those guys actually know what game situation awareness is all about and are equipped to deal with pressure.

Look at the new guy Jadav for India.. what an amazing find. The confidence and the clarity of his thinking in high pressure situations was amazing to watch. We don't have a single player with that kind of mental toughness and we need to start at the root and develop the youngsters in this way through the age group system.

We need good coaches there and also a talent spotting team which can fast track talented youngsters similar to Mustafiz

^^ Jadav at 31 years old is anything but new. Played list a cricket for the past 10 years, has played close to a hundred first class matches, regular at the IPL. So not surprising to find him able to handle pressure with ease.

Anyone in BD who can hold a bat gets a test debut. Shanto is one prime example.

Walsh and Halsall are treading on a thin line i am afraid. BCB needs to reconsider position of both.

BCB has been dilly dallying with regards to a spin coach for ages.
