Default Match Thread: WI v BD - ODI 1

I was expecting more talk about the upcoming match in few hours, about 9 hours from now. True, we have plenty of threads about it, but none of them are very active. I want more! lets start sharing thoughts. Predictions, teams, what theam would u wanted over what we have now and so on.

Oracle, please give us more of your experiences in details. kinda like "gholer shad dhudhay mitano". (since I like ghol better than dhudh ).

would u prefer hannan over shahrier since none of them are really shiny in international level recently and last time rana-hannan did good? even though it was only one match and we should not count on that too much, but should we have given one more chance?

how about raj and faisal? whats the point of including them if we don't use them? do u think we should include them in any odis? when? how?

our WI fans are bragging too much about their pace attack? from our recent performance against other world class bowler in aus and pak, how justified is this bragging?

looking at the practice match, spin did the trick. i believe its the same field and pitch. should we have included one more spinner as dav wanted? instead of alok? sujon took 3 out of 4 first wickets in that match. no way he'll be out of the squad (he's there doesn't matter what).

how about the weather factor? i think bd is good at saving than chasing runs. 3 out of 4 win came that way. so, should we bat first even thoug rain can effect the game and give advantage to who bats second?

speed up guys. its talk time.

I will keep the same team for this match.
Biddut is a genuine strokeplayer and he will play all three ODI's I believe. No.6 spot is very unstable right now. All depends on Alok now. Faisal will go in if alok fails again.Bowling is not the problem at the moment. They just had a fantastic outing and based on that, all deserve to be in this game. Things might change later depending on the outcome.
About their bowlers: these WI fans here are blinded by their pace attack ( a la the pakis prior to the India series .and we all know what happened ). They are pretty wayward at times and are in no way in the leagues of walsh and ambrose. maybe with time best and co will improve. right now they are nothing to write home about. we faced better pacers over the years. i won't worry too much abut their pace and they ahve no spin either. we do our business right, we can more than compete and give them a run for their money...

I agree - it makes no sense to change this lineup just after one match - that again a practice match where the pitch did strange things...

now if bidyut/rana opening pair does not work out next game - we might try a different pair, possibly bringing in hannan.

if alok fails again, it would make sense to bring in faisal.

as for the others, even if one of them do not click we need to persist with them.

What about Gayle? Especially during the final 10 overs?

Past records show that our pace bowlers have always done better than our regular spinners Enamul Haque Moni and Mohammad Rafique. If we consider that most of the games were played in Dhaka & one in Chittagong, where batsman-friendly wickets are used, then the past records don't give us much encouragements.

However, things that are different now is that Rafique is in an astonishing form right now, and we never used the home-grounds to our full advantage before anyways. So I won't be surprised if our spinners do a better job this time around, surprisingly away, in the West Indies.

But, we will underestimate the West Indies and will be complacent against their spin attack (whereas West Indians themselves are mentioning complacency), which I believe we should not do.

They don't have quality spinners in their side alright, but they do have some accurate spinners, and Chris Gayle leading that spin attack.

So, if our spinners does better (or if the conditions are suitable for spinners), there is no way for us to say that we will have a better advatange of winning the match.

I've seen them - besides Gayle, Ramnaresh Sarwan also bowls leg spin more accurately than our Alok/Ashraful; so while our part time leggies give away floods of runs when they bowl, West Indies leggies are actually more effective in checking the run-rates down.

That is, if our batsman do manage to see off the new ball attack of the West Indies pacemen.

Default Difference in our 2 teams of 2 times

If you look at the past records between the (2 Bangladeshi) sides, between 1999 and 2002, then you'll see that most of the best partnerships by Bangladesh for the 10 wickets were made during the 1999-2000 season rather than the 2002-2003 season.

It is a striking thing for me, as by just one look at these stats, I can say which Bangladesh team was better than the other.

I just hope that the Bangladesh team that we have right now, will exceed the individual performances of the 1999 season against the West Indies. Only that way, can we hope for a relatively better performance (or may be a win somewhere around the corner).

Here is the link that I forgot to put up in the earlier thread.
Forms of our 2 teams of 1999 & 2002 season

It could be a challenge for our bowlers to stop the West Indies batsman from scoring a 250 plus total. On 5 among the 7 ODIs played between the 2 teams, West Indies has scored more than 250. The last ODI during the World Cup was an exception, but everybody here knows how the pitch behaves in South Africa, especially on a rain-affected day.

WI Totals of more than 250

Highest Partnerships for WI

I'm not gonna make any predictions for this series... against Zimbabwe I suggested a strong fight in the test series... possibly even a victory... while a bad performance in the ODIs. The exact opposite happened.

Gayle is not a leggie - a Right Arm Off Break and Sarwan is no threat. We're a sub-continental side. We should know a thing or two about spin bowling, specially with so many quality SLAs in the team. Hullabaloo around current WIndies pace attack doesn't amount much. Chucker Lawson remodelled his action and now a lesser bowler. BD batsmen handeled faster bowlers than Edwards and Best. At times they are wayward.

I'm saying all these having an understanding that this BD side is confident. The only thing i kept thinking is application of skills. I really hope for a good ODI series.

Beamer I don't suppose that anyone is saying that Best, Edwards, Lawson and Co are in the leagues of the likes of Ambi and Courtney ..... on the contrary .... these are all young guys who are still trying to find their footing. However they are fast and get good swing ..... once they get settled and their line and length in on target the Tigers are hopeless!!!

You're right .... we don't have a specialist spinner .... something that has certainly come back to haunt us in the past .... but we have been able to rely of Gayle who may not spin the ball much but is as accurate as they come and is a wicket taker!!!

Like Hasib .... I'm not making any predictions for the series .... I want my team to win of course .... but I'm not predicting anything .... I prefer to see the performances and then discuss them as they come rather than speculate right now!!

I hear from the windies board that the sun is shining, so we will definitely have a match today. Go Tigers go! Let us show to all our detractors that we mean business.

Default live video/audio info, courtesy of abhs

Live Video

* For very gooq quality streaming, we may have to be fortunate to see that the following links will function properly.

Sky Sports - For the ODIs and the 1st test. Here is the programme guide of Cricket- Live on Sky Sports.

Ten Sports - for all of the ODIs and the tests.

Please note that the above links work (if would really work) only at the time of the matches. The links were first posted by CricketisLife! in the other threads.

* BTV will telecast the matches live. So if there will be webcast of BTV by
Homeview Bangladesh, we may enjoy the live video (although poor quality) from this link. Please note that Homeviewbangladesh live BTV link is not working at present. Sometimes especially, at the time of live sports, this works although live BTV link is not displayed in the frontpage. In such a case, you may try from this link at the time of the match.

* ABS TV is planning to telecast the matches. If so quality streaming will be available from this direct ABS TV link or you may click play manually from this link.

* If there will be live telecast from Aruba TV, it may also be viewed from this link.

* For other options, this Caribbean TV/Radio site may be resourceful.

Live Audio

* Radio Guyana will provide qualitly audio of all the matches. Here is the Radio Guyana Cricket Guide, which shows that all the matches will be covered. Simple clicking of this link will enable you to listen, if not , scroll down of the page and click Play on your chosen Player.

Here is an alternate link for the same.

More to be posted later. Hope CricketisLife! or some other will come forward with some useful links so that we would be able to watch the matches live.

I would, like you all, be sorry if none of the video links will be useful.
