Default How do you see 'aschtey' in English?

So I was in MCdonald's the other days. Or as I call it: Mickey Ds. They have their oatmeal and Mac Griddles going on there. Best bang for the buck you can get ever. Go to your local store and give them the coupon # 2235. Anyhoo, apparently, there was this aschtey bathroomey smell there. I immediately filled up the survey from the receipt and went to their website, https://www.mcdvoice.com/
and told them about the smell. Altho' the toilet was impeccable apparently there was this 'aschtey' smell, Banglay amra jake "aschtey gondho" boli jeta... there. I used the words 'musty' and 'stale' but I logged in after a long time to find the meaning of 'aschtey.'

Thank...and please for God's sake use a ****in deodorant bcites.

While we are at it, let's make this the official 'smell thread' of BC. I presume it behooves what you neophytes call it 'sticky'?

Also what is the English of 'bhotka'... as in 'bhotka' gondho. After this sensation called 'sweating' we tend to say 'tyomar gayer theke bhotka ghondho ber hoche' esp. if the boor wears a frikkin cheap polyester clothing made in Nike by Indonesian two year olds... apparently the bacteria gets lodged in the polyester shirt and bad smell emanates.

Also while we are at it, what is the cure of bacteria smell from polyester clothing? The ratio in question is: 60% polyester and 40% cotton.

Hold on. I got one more.

What is the 'cure' for ridding your home of 'shutki' smell? Before akelwhelk responds, it is a form of dry fish.

No, no need to get in the lotus position. Just light it up and relax, let the two scents mingle and coexist.

Stupid Febreeze doesn't work. Besides a strong smell masks it anyway. We do the classic 'lemon in water pot' first aid strategy. But meh. Doesn't really remove the strong odor from 'bhaja maach' or 'fried fish' for you fancy ones out there.

In the future, I want to get my hands on an air purifier. I think air hygiene is a key component to mental well being and overall health.

If you can just open the windows when cooking, the strong smell will find a way to get into the neighbors' homes; at any cost.

But that is a good idea though, air purifier...from a trusted brand. Not the cheap knockoffs from the department stores.

The moment I walk into a Bangali's home at around noon-1 p.m. the smell of shutki bata, piyaz (onio), rosoon bata + Bhetki maach-er peti (fish intestin for Aklemalp_) get soaked into my Tetron shirt! That smell instantly masks my Gorom kaaler Dupur belaar shorirer Ghaam-er Gondho.

Drak(c)ula used to have Bhotka gondho coming out of his bed (coffin).

Aschtey is like a sticky smell.
Kemon jani ekta mach mach smell.

Aschtey - Pungent, Reek

Bhotka - Musty, Dank

The dank smell from Professor Z's underarms overwhelmed the students. Poor Jessica never returned to that class again and changed her major.

Well Mufi, you would be surprised....Some people (both men and women) find unwashed body odor very attractive, especially the German and Austrian friends.

Some great chemistry at work.

The fish smell, those particles will tend to cling to the water droplets(?) In the air, some chemical reactions probably resulting in a neutralizing smell...

Same thing with the smoke from the agarbatties, although it might be more of a masking smell because of the property of the thick smoke particles...

Interesting, indeed. Someone with a more deeper understanding of this chemistry, please chime in

I miss Sbsash...He once opened a thread about his invention on how to get rid of bad socks smell. I can't find that thread, been looking.

Welcome back zeeshan... good to see you back .

readunf Some of the posts gives my gaa chulkani... I can not stand the smell of Bangladeshi cooking at home ... specially beef ... I get nauseated ...

I think the key to cooking those food is to live in a house with lots of air and sunlight and cook outside the house ... ie setting up a kitchen with 4 walls open windows ... like dog house / separate garage ...

Apartments are too closed in in a apartment building .. and the worse are those 2 to 3 multifamily houses .... the air don't escape due to lack of enough Windows and open space ...

Walk by jamaica hills on Friday morning ..the string stench fills even the open air that's how bad is when some ppl cook ...

It's because of this I am so self-conscious about smells in general. Would run and close all the bedroom doors and closets anytime my mom started cooking. The smell lingers on clothes for days.

Also, I have noticed that a lot of south asians have really bad B.O. I can't describe it but it smells so strong, like its wafting out of them. Maybe its the high consumption of cigarettes or the high onion diet. It's made me so paranoid that I might smell like that when I get older.

Lol also when you eat that fried fish or fish curry or even any turmeric laden food, the smell sticks to your palm no matter how much Dial you spray on your hands. And then the cute cashier at Walmart gives you ugly stares: "Damn these curry munchas". FML

The food tastes good tho' . That's undeniable.

Lime juice I heard cuts away the strong smell of shrimp and its juice.

I think those guys that were mentioned earlier about their body odor should try and use deodorant like Old Spice and family. It does the job, and the girls come to you instead of the other way around.

I like the smell of rose water. Kewra essence is also widely used for cooking purposes and making perfumes.
