Default The Musical Instruments Thread

Do you play any musical instrument/s?

When I was 9 or 10, I was invited (my parents were architects of this ) to attend a dholak class at our local village temple. It was free. I wasn't too interested, since it was the summer vacation, and I wanted to play cricket all day with my friends.

But after attending the first session, I kinda got obsessed with the dholak, it the beats came to me naturally... trained a lot by playing the beats on anything that makes a sound when struck (plates, cups, my knees, etc lol).

The class lasted 2 months (3 days/week).

Playing for the first time on a bhajan sung at the temple was a really good feeling. After that, I looked forward to going to functions all over our county and play... Of course, it took me more than a year to get into it comfortably.

It took up most of my teenage years; along with cricket.

I haven't played it in over 6 years. But I still do hit those plates and cups

So does any of our members play any instrument?
Share it...

Beatboxing counts?

At secondary school use to play the Piano. Went after school class to learn some Bengali/Indian beats.

A friend of mine and the teacher (Mr. Haque) composed the beat of Krishno Aila I was there...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtnA8mbsM5w

I was able to play the beat very well, but it was long time ago.. now aint got a clue.

Wow, that's a cool song.

The beats are kinda easy to play.

I can hear the dholak at some points.

What genre is this song?

Don't know mon. I had keen interest playing the Piano when I was younger. The fact that I went after school... shows it meant something to me..Hardly anyone turned up after school, it was around 3-4 of us..

Use to play beats of the indian film kabhi khushi kabhie gham.. and other indian songs, don't remember them now. but the Bengali one above, the beat when it was composed I was there, the teacher is Bengali and very old/experienced... he had high expectation from me... but when I didn't take Music as one of the GCSE option, he was pissed. Went different route.

Now this is the mother of all thread!

Aklemalp bhaiyo and Sporting bhaiyo,

I play the Tambourine and Maraca professionally for a band called 'Tres Hombres'. I have been playing tambourine professionally since 1978.

I would like to have a jam session with Sporting bhaiyo's piano when I drop by London and play my tambourine with Paramanand at time square after our wrestling match.

Bujhee Kom bro, the last time I touched a piano was 7-8 years ago.
I would be really bad, unless I start again from the basics..

I have never played the Tambourine and Maraca - just googled it now..
my cousin bro plays them... at times he gets hired for Bengali events/TV shows.

Ahhha BK bhai, Professional tambourine players are awesome. I remember having a music DVD with all disco songs...the camera usually pans to the tambourine player. I hope that those guys encounter a lot of groupies during their playing years.

Now, will you be able to play the tambourine after I TKO you in the wrestling match?

Hey, BK is more than proper built. He is a behemoth. A more than 6 feet tall behemoth!

Him playing tambourine would be a sight to behold.

Why do u think he wanna wrestle with me? To knock the crap outta me

We can even make a band together, 3 hombres... dholak + piano + tambourine ....

^^ yep..

By the way, during that time when I was sent to learn to play the dholak, there were other choices of instruments such as keyboard and the triangle. I could have never gotten the hang of the keyboard

I used to be able to play the recorder back in grade/year 3

Does bashing the drums in garage band count.
