not true. Sylhet is based on Srihatta and has a Sanskrit origin. Shah Jalal being an Arabic speaker, would not have named it Sylhet.

There was another muslim leader before Shah Jalal in Sylhet --

Quote:
The last chieftain to reign in Sylhet was Govinda of Gaur. Sylhet was previously a Hindu kingdom, controlled by the Rajas. One of the most renowned Bengali warriors was Shaikh Jalal of Sylhet, who entered Sylhet to battle against Raja Gaur Govind, with 313 followers, but the Raja had 100,00 men, which led to a hostile battle leading the Raja to be defeated, and the entire region falling to Shaikh Jalal (d. 1357).

The 14th century marked the beginning of Islamic influence in Sylhet, with the arrivals of Sufi disciples to the region. In 1301, Sylhet was conquered by Shamsu’d-Din Firuz, a Bengali enterprising governer. Shaikh Jalal was driven out by Mongol invasions. Sikander Shah rallied his army against Raja Gaur Gobind, due the fact that the Raja ordered a man to be killed for sacrificing a cow for his son. But Sikander Shah was defeated by the Raja
Shah Jalal came to Sylhet after Sheikh Jalal and Shamsu’d-Din Firuz.

I have visited the burial place of the martyred child and the his father (saint), I don’t know the name. But it’s because of this event, Shah Jalal received letters of this horrific act amongst many others from deceased child’s father, which brought Islam to Sylhet, than spread to other parts of the country.

limited to northeast region only. other parts of historic Bengal converted through other events. CTG was another regional focal point for the spread. The name baro auliar desh refers to that. While the north (Rajshahi) and southwest (Khulna) had other saints.

Shah Jalal (RA) came with many other saints, more than 300+, they spread to Bangladesh. Also, from what I know Shah Jalal is also the cousin of a famous Saint in India. This is common knowledge in Bangladesh, and most often people refer spread of Islam in Bangladesh to the arrival of Shah Jalal and his followers in Sylhet.

Abdul Karim popular from the people the land but the media even could least present tribute shows and what not. Maybe media is still new, hasn't matured enough yet to showcase good tributes and appreciation to those of great people that has made such contributions in cinema and music, or anything in general for the country,in the past and present. Even someone like Late Nayak Rajjak, has not got good any good tributes given on media channels or award shows for his great contributions to BD cinema.

Only till recent times some BD channels have shown decent tributes to Salman sha. I saw some time back the current BD actor Arefin Shuvo making tr on Salman because he was inspired by him. And the program was a good appreciation and tribute Salman Sha's great contribution, success, influence in BD cinema, and the crazy fan following he had.etc.

Since you didnt include Salman Sha in your early post. Here's one of our legend, one of most loved person in not just ours but whole of BD's.

And as for the song, Bhromor koiyo Giya.. I actually at first didn't know what Bhromor meant first then saw a video on youtube with the lyrics in English. It means HONEYBEE. And Koiyo Giya are sylheti words, 'Go tell'. It's saying, 'Honeybee go tell'

This song is so popular, it has been made so many different versions, even Kolktat film used/made a version of it. Even Tajikistani Singer copied/used the song music used from Ambreen Musa and Fuads version, which is the best one IMO. Such emotions in the music, so deeply sad, just so beautifully made.

Best version, with singing, music, sounds.

Here's Tajikistani singer used same background music from above.

Here's Kolkata Bengali film copied, made a version of Bhromor Koiyo Giya.

‘Dhaka is the capital city of Bangladesh, but Sylhet is the captal City of our faith’

We have a shitty team..

Only the miracle of Baba Shahjalal can pull us through?
But are deserving of his miracle???? Let’s wait for tomorrow..

I hate bringing religion into these threads. But calling a certain region heart of faith is disrespectful of followers of other region. And also to Hindus and other minoriotes.

At the same time there is no such thing as miracle of shah jalal. A dead person has no power or miracle, no matter how righteous and pious he or she was. This is in direct contradiction to the most basic tenet of the faith.

Sorry about this religious discussion. Had to clear it in order to make people of all faith welcome in the club or thread.

Hmm. That post was no way disrespectful to other people of different faiths. About the miracle is a traditional saying , one saying it doesn’t mean one believes in that .

Yes people of all faith are welcome. Not sure how you deduced it to be not welcoming to others from different faith.

It’s a bad omen you opened the thread. Not good.
I think a genuine sylheti should have opened it. Not a sylheti troll.

Thanks for the feedback!

Anyway...

It will be nice to see Sylhet stadium in some high profile games this year.

According to curators, sylhet has the fastest and most pace friendly pitch in the country. It should favor the seamers. So will be interesting to see how the pitches are. Might be a breath of relief from slow/docile pitches of Dhaka/Ctg.

This thread should go to FC, turned out to be more about the place/region/people/ than the bpl cricket franchise itself, lol.

OP should open BPL, Thread for Sylhet Sixers, a fresh one. And move this to FC, take out BPL 2017 from title.
