Default New FTP (2019-2023): Bangladesh to play 4th highest number of Tests!

The good news is we will be playing nearly 9 Tests per year, with only the Big 3 playing slightly more than us.

The bad news is 4-6 of those Tests are scheduled against Pakistan, meaning they will most likely get cancelled when that idiotic board starts PMSing.

So that means about 30 Tests in 4 years which is quite good. And thats without having to play ZIM.

Hope we play the Afghan and Irish teams and Zim too (if they have enough white players).

^^ Lots of dramas waiting for us - PCB will refuse to host at UAE, and then will ask for damage when we refuse to tour Pakistan.

PCB is threatening the entire FTP now over bilateral relations with India. We still get 7 tests a year if the PAK series is cancelled. But then PAK would forfeit points and that would affect them negatively in the league standings.

Hopefully the BCB has straightened out where those series will be played so as to avoid drama.

But if the series gets cancelled the loss will be Pakistans more than us.

Ireland 's roster is somewhat richer in comparison to Afghanistan's in that they play half of the top-nine countries. Ireland are scheduled to play a one-off Test against Australia (2019), Sri Lanka (2020), England (2021) and then host New Zealand and South Africa in 2022. In addition, Ireland will face Afghanistan (5 Tests), Zimbabwe (4 Tests) and Bangladesh (2 Tests).

Both Afghanistan and Zimbabwe will play nearly equal number of Tests at home and away. Ireland will play seven home Tests and nine away while Afghanistan seven at home and six away.

Presently, Australia are the only upper-tier country to play against Afghanistan in the new FTP. Both countries will play a one-off Test in 2020 and 2022. Afghanistan's other opponents will be: Ireland (5 Tests), Zimbabwe (4 Tests), Bangladesh (1 Test) and West Indies (1 Test).

Zimbabwe are scheduled to play 17 Tests in the four-year cycle. Out of the 17, Zimbabwe will play Bangladesh in six Tests followed by four each against Ireland and Afghanistan, two against Sri Lanka and one against West Indies

Dont get me wrong, we'll get pumped in all these Tests but I cant describe this feeling. So many years of barren games, now we have away Tests vs Australia, England, Bangladesh.

Just unbelievable.

Such a long road before we can even dream of being competitive, but still, great feeling to be at the top table.

If PCB invite us to tour Pakistan, and BCB refuse, who will be losing point in that case?

This is good news! I hope we get to play all that. Another reason why we should find good coaches like Gary Kirsten/ Andy Flower who are master planner.

Depends on how many points we have and if any other teams tour PAK for Tests.

If other teams tour for Test series, we should if the security situation allows.

However if no one else tours except for BS t20 games, then here is what is likely to happen:

Suppose we are 9th ranked and winless, BCB wont have any grounds to complain to the ICC and in that case PAK would most likely get our forfeited points. Wouldnt hurt us as we are bottom ranked eithe way.

On the other hand if we are 6th or 7th ranked with a fair number of wins, BCB could argue that we shouldnt have to choose between points or safety (duh). The PCB antics may erode the ICC's patience and they might rule in our favor and we get Pakistans points. I think it would unfair on the ICC's part to dock us points because PCB can afford to play in the UAE.

BCB's reputation is considably higher in the ICC as evidenced by the fact that we arent automatically grouped with Zimbabwe anymoe.

Looks like Windies will be focusing more on LOIs:

With such raise in number of matches to be played, it's important the next coach comes up with different teams for different formats. We may even need different coaches to focus on different formats, with one head coach/director to guide them all.

In comparison, in last four years, we played -

23 Tests
59 ODIs
38 T20Is

ie we will play much less ODIs and many more Tests.

No Test against England or Zimbabwe in the upcoming FTP!

This figure includes world cup matches/tournaments, the future tour programme will not include these fixtures!

A game changer will be that full tours will be gone. Tours may be Tests only or LOI only. This will enable to have very different teams for LOI and Tests, and even to have separate coaches for each format.

Quote:
The full tour is gone

The days of a full, long tour, comprising all three formats, are over. In the new calendar only a handful of tours between the nine teams in the Test league will include all three formats. Indeed, a number of tours will be Tests only, or Tests combined with one of the two limited-overs formats, or limited-overs only.

Correction from the OP and also your post above:

We play 35 Tests in 4 years which is almost 9 a year. But,

4-6 Tests vs Pakistan may get cancelled due to petty PCB.
9 Tests are vs minnows ZIM, AFG, IRE

So only 20-22 Tests are against the other F9 sides. Thats still pretty good IMO.

Asia Cup and World Cup/CT will add 16 ODIs to the total or 4 more per year.

^^ So, we will be basically playing the same number of matches as the current cycle with 9 Tests added against minnows?!

In the last four years, we played 20 Tests against F9 and 3 against Zim.

Correct. I am fine with this. The interesting thing to note is that we will be playing two 3-Test series in the league. Only question is if that is against PAK, SL, WI, or NZ.

As the 9th ranked team, its only fair for us to play the minnows. It will give us practice for the league as well as an opportunity to ease in younger players and also boost our averages as well.

If we play 9 tests a year, its conceivable that we can have players who end up playing 125 or more Tests in a career.

This coupled with the increased ICC revenue means BCB are in a much better position than anytime before.

If PAK doesn't cancel on us, we will play 26 vs F9 teams plus 9 more vs the minnows.

If what i read time to time, that Bangladesh is one of the top in generating revenue then why does Pak cancel? Are they really that dumb and petty?

At the end of the day, Money talks. You would have to be a retard not to host BD in UAE if there is significant money to be made.

Unless there is govt (official/unofficial) interference (like in case of ind/pak), no sane body will prevent a profitable tour no matter what the problem is.

Bangladesh will not tour Pak unless ICC clears security, it is that simple. And any decision maker who is willing to lose money trying to convince Bangladesh otherwise should not be running the organization.

Besides, I don't think Bangladesh touring Pakistan will help, it has to be a more western country.. aus, eng, sa, ireland, nz - these are the teams that can get international matches in full force back in pakistan - not Bangladesh.

Not sure we should be excited that we will get to play more Test matches against minnows. WI and we currently have same rating points (72) yet they will play only 4-5 Tests against minnows in the cycle.

When I first heard the news, I thought we would get to play more matches against G9, ie each series will have 3 matches instead of 2. But it turns out we are given more minnow matches so that other G9 teams will have to play less of those!

The last FTP had 27 G9 tests scheduled in 5 years. PAK cancelled 2 of those leaving 25 or exactly 5 a year.

New one has 26 scheduled in 4 years. So it's a slight improvement if PAK doesn't cancel.
