Default KKR releases Shakib

After 7 years, KKR released Shakib.

"..he will also be available in the players' auction scheduled to take place on January 28 and 29."

Extra incentive for Shakib to perform for Bangladesh now.

Play rubbish against SL/ZIM, chance of getting signed will go down.

He only played one match last season, I guess he won't mind playing for a different franchise, although he is not that great in the shortest format of the game still with his reputation I think he is gonna get a good deal at the auction.

While Narayon became a decent opener for KKR Shakib became trash as a t20 batsman.
Dropping Gayle in the bpl final made it worse lol.

I guess it makes sense now why he was all fired up in BPL.
Pretty sure Kolkata told him way before the official release.

Personally I wouldn’t buy Shakib if I was one of the owners.
Bad return on investment, his batting in T20 is awful.
I would rather make investment in a genuine bowler who could bat a bit.

Shakib is a "wily customer" to quote legend of Bangladesh: AAK.

Agree with SportingBD that he is a bad return investment. He can make you win matches with bowling in league single-handedly but he is more into subtleties and nuances. A bit like Narayon.

But public wants boom boom bash. They want explosive bowling. No time for inano binano sublte nuances...

Hit ball see ball... Bring me a big Mac 158.. then I am all game.
Take wickets with fiery spell like Akhtar and Malinga... then I am all game.

No one wants a T20 to be a frikkin cerebral dissertation and a "puzzle" to be solved. Just like only idiots will spend 20 bucks on movies to watch frikkin "witty dialogues" of Woody Allen in Annie Hall.

Public wants blockbuster.

It's possible KKR will resign him. I think they can only retain 1-2 foreigners. If KKR doesnt sign him, I doubt any other team will.

This is not the first time..he was released last time also when ipl teams had retain only 4 or 5 players and release others

He was bought back in the auction.

This time though I dont think he will be bought back if his price is over 100k

Irony is where players are learning to bat more destructive in these PLs like IPL, we have Shakibs who been playing in the IPL for years and hasn't learnt **** when it comes to batting. In fact I think he was a better t20 batsmen in his early days

Well the best template for T20 batting comes from Colin Munro.

For the last few years (including 2017), he is the number one all-rounder in the world.

Oh don't get me wrong, but I don't take this T20 ranking seriously, not saying this cuz I am an Indian, I am a Shakib fan myself, but you take my comment with a pinch of salt and ask around and let me know how many of your own countrymen rate Shakib very highly in this format.

Shakib has become an underperformer in domestic T20.
Notice hasn't been back to Big Bash, yet 2 Afghanis here.
Glad BCB said national players can only play 2 tournaments.
Mustifzur most likliest for Bash, but his form been up and down last 18 months.

It is insanely tough for player to be equally good in all three formats, which is why I rate Kohli so highly. Shakib did have some match winning performances for KKR and TBH he didn't get many chances last couple of seasons so I won't be surprised if he is picked again by KKR at the auction.

I agree its hard 2 be good at all 3 games.
From what i seen he is mediocre at this level.
His first 2 seasons at IPL were good, with the ball,he seems to be found out at T20.
That said Big Bash and IPL are ruthless with their players.
You can have a hiccup in CPL,BPL and PSl and come back.
But following Shakib at IPL he been mediocre the last few seasons.

I don't think he will be picked up again,2 many good spinners about.
Look at Zampa had a sterling season,1st game average and Tahir replaced him.Its ruthless.
On Shakib int20 hasn't been knocking the door down internationally.Played 2 games in oz scored a 40 and did not do much with the ball,Rashid replaced him the next year.
Ruthless business.
