Default Shakib to go down as greatest Spin bowling AR of all time

Haters be like "MHRAM hasn't given a postatch mandatory post".

So here it is and the title itself is self explanatory

For me he is the greatest of all time. Its not easy playing so much cricket and being top rated in all formats of the game for such a long period.

Garfield Sobers in tests is debatable because he bowled medium pace too plus he was more batting dominant than being a genuine all-rounder

he needs to do something in the big stages for BD..if not wining the WC than at least have to take BD to the final. or else he will be one of the greatest allrounders only to us.

Sobers is most definitely a all rounder, however, he has only one notable contribution as a spin bowler in his career

Alrounder = batting and Bowling. 50 + 50.

When we are talking about all time great(s): batting alroudner or bowling alrounder goes out of the window. Jack Kallis, Kapil, Hadlee all are alrounders. Doesn't matter if one were batting heavy or bowling heavy. So that discussion I am not going to go with Sobers being batting alroudner and Shakib is not.

Another point: One can't say how Bradman would play in a 20 over game. He/she can assume but that would be pure speculation. He scored century in the first session multiple times. That feat very recently was equaled only for once. We are talking about 100+ years of history here and with the ODI and T20 influence that feat is not being achieved regularly. Bradman could have 200 SR in a T20 game. Similarly, Sobers could have dominated like Viv or Modern day Gayle with the bat in a limited over settings. Since he didn't play it again comes down to speculation.

We have a Virat because there was a Tendulkar. We have a Tendulkar because there was a Gavaskar. Ponting just didn't pop up out of the blue. There was Border, before him was Chappell. Before Chappell there were few all the way up to Bradman. Initial pure blueblood remains the top brass no matter how many new generations come and breaks their record. Like Gavaskar, like Bradman; Sobers is one of those pioneers. Statistically if someone better comes along, he remains the Greatest because there wasn't a blueprint for him. He paved the way. He created a standard. And what a standard it was.

From the 50s, spin bowling has come along way. The definition has changed as well. John Emburey, Carl Hooper wouldn't know what a Dusra is. Although Sobers started as a pace bowler (batted at #9), he definitely wasn't a fast bowler after few years and moved up the batting order. Chinaman bowling is spin. Most tests he would bowl over 20 overs. He could bowl left hand orthodox as well; what ever was necessary.

If 50 is the score for batting and bowling: With an average of 57, he would wipe the floor. At the time of retirement he was #2 highest runs scored in test cricket history. 2nd 8k test run scorer of the history. Boycott was #1 because he played tons of more games with 10 less average than Sobers. Highest single innings score was his as well.

His 235 wickets was top 5 in ALL TIME WICKET TAKING LIST when he retired. Alrounder, pure bowlers, spinner, fast bowler, Wesley Hall, any body and every body.

There is no comparison between Sobers and modern day players.

Insanity has triumphed again, I as always will bring some sanity to the table and say, NO he won't.

Let him win a world cup first or have a meaningful performance at the world cup. I think he will just go down in the record books, as a good player from Bangladesh.

LOL @ those saying "He hasn't won us a world cup or gotten us to a final" and then mentioning Jacques Kallis. And Kallis had a championship-calibre team throughout most of his career.

I cannot think of another spin-bowling all-rounder as good as Shakib now, back then, or everything in between.

Shakib is already the greatest spin all-rounder. By the time he retires, he will cement his place as:

No. 1 All-rounder period (bye bye, Kallis).
Greatest Bangladeshi cricketer (sorry, Mash).
Greatest Bengali cricketer (move over, Ganguly).

LOL you are stretching it way to far, Ganguly won us matches against an ATG Pakistan team with his bowling only and let us not even get into batting. Kallis is the greatest alrounder world has ever seen, as much as I like Shakib I don't think he can ever achieve that status.
