Default U-19 Off-spinner Nayeem called up for 1st Test vs Sri Lanka

Just 17 yo, and has already gotten called up to the senior side! Bowled well vs India based on his stats. I do like the look of him, tall off-spinner, wish I had studied his action a bit more.

Highly doubt he will make the XI with Taijul and Miraz ahead of him, but maybe the think tank wants to blunt the Hathu factor...???

Overall a decent squad.

I saw his bowling action last night and despite getting wickets he was nothing special. In fact none of the bowlers had any special prospects. Only Onik's determination and aggression stood out for me among the bowlers

Poor squad

Shakib Al Hasan (capt), Mahmudullah (vice-capt), Tamim Iqbal, Litton Das, Mushfiqur Rahim, Imrul Kayes, Mominul Haque, Mosaddek Hossain, Taijul Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, Kamrul Islam, Mehidy Hassan, Rubel Hossain, Nayeem Hasan.

Roy should be in for Rubel, it's absurd Rubel is in the test squad and Roy isn't, also wasting a spot on a kid

Rubel shouldn’t be in test squad. Roy better potential and has the bounce, lines. Yes he is not greater than Rubel but certainly poses more threat as a test bowler than Rubel who still has a bradmanesque average.

Why not Abul Hasan? Low tailender who can bat and bowl, heck I’d take Abul over Rubel at test.

I think our morale is already lost and trying to give Srilanka the same dose like Aus or Eng will backfire.

How many lefties does SL have?

Shakib is no Mash. He's like Mushy/Tamim. Expect more weird decisions under his captaincy without coach.

At least no Soumya or Sabbir though...which were facepalm-esque selections for Test.

Guessing this will be the XI:
Tamim, Imrul, Mominul, Shakib, Mushy, Riyad, Mosaddek, Miraz, Taijul, Kamrul, Fizz

What's Riyad's avg from last 2-3 years?

Kamrul and rubel suddenly return, an unproven inexperienced u19 spinner gets picked. Weird squad.

When did Riyad become VC? Got dropped not too long ago...

Hope Shakib listens to him.

Well, there's not a real head coach, so make hay while the sun shines.

Some of the national team batsmen had difficulty playing Nayeem in the nets. I don't think we have seen his full potential under Saif-Ankon. I remember in the England match he was trying to loop it up and find some turn, but then Ankon told him to bowl flat.

IMO, it will do him world of good be in the nets with the national team than playing in DPL, where he will be told again to bowl defensively. However, I do hope Sujon is not thinking about handing him Test debut yet.

Seems like BD wants to find a spinner with x factor, maybe taking a cue from Afghanistan.

But we havent seen this kind of move for a while. BD selectors were very much against promoting players too early.

U/19 team have matches till 30/31 January. Unless the selectors planning to pull Nayeem out of the U/19 WC early, he will reach Bangladesh sometime middle of the 1st Test.

They have been hiding Miraz from Lankans in the ODI series so far. Perhaps they're expecting the Lankans to be able to read his action/grip better this time with help of Hathu. Perhaps Nayeem is the wildcard backup option if Miraz is taken to cleaners in the first Test.

Hope they do what WINDIES did with Hetmyer.

Take him in the squad for exposure...but Hetmyer was already out of U-19 team

Nayeem is still green

Actually, they had done well in DPL as well. In BPL, Anam was decent with bat, Nasir was pretty good with ball. So, no, they were not taken in the ODI team based on NCL performances alone.

We can't tell what sort of wickets they will be going with in this series.

Rank turners would nullify our advantage as SL has Herath + Sandakan + Perrera. Making turners would also be weak move IMO opinion against non-white teams.

We need to make decent 400 batting tracks that will deteriorate on days 4 and 5. We should back our batting to deliver us the W.

This will be an interesting series. SL whitewashed PAK and drew a Test in India.

^^ I am expecting more of a low bounce pitch in Chittagong, where even if the ball turns, batsmen will have plenty of time to adjust.

Mirpur pitch will be anybody's guess.

Whats up with your use of "white/ non-white" team. I have seen you use that before too. I think the more correct term would be non-subcontinental team. It's funny mods get all upset when someone uses half of the word of 'pakistani' but its completely fine if someone calls out a race. Weird world we live in.

i think anamul is confused. he is not sabbir or soumya. he wanted to prove he can prove that he can hot from first ball. i think they should let him play his natural game which is start slow and then score runs and wait for century. one or 2 guys in the team like him is not bad . once he is set, he can change his game or rotate strike more

i think he doesnt know whats his role. he tries too hard to remove his selfish tag and thats the outcome in the series.

i am disappointed with nasir. he had plenty of time in the middle order and he couldnt utilize it. so if imrul comes in, he should replace nasir and bat top order and anamul can bat middle order
