Default Chittagong pitch gets one demerit point after being rated as “Below Average”

Quote:

Five centuries and six half-centuries were scored in the first Test between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
The Chittagong Test pitch for the opening match between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka has been rated as “below average” by David Boon of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees, and, as such, it has received one demerit point according to the ICC Pitch and Outfield Monitoring Process.

The demerit point will remain active for a rolling five-year period and if during this five-year period the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium reaches the threshold of five demerit points, then it will be suspended from staging any international cricket for 12 months.

Mr Boon, whose report has been forwarded to the Bangladesh Cricket Board, said: “The pitch provided no seam movement to the fast bowlers with the new ball and also lacked carry and bounce throughout the match. The pitch did offer occasional slow turn for the spinners early on, but it did not deteriorate as much as would have been expected as the match progressed, resulting in a pitch that too heavily favoured the batsmen across the five days.”

Five centuries and six half-centuries were scored in the match which saw Bangladesh posting 513 and 307 for five, and Sri Lanka amassing a colossal 713 for nine declared in their only innings.

Very harsh from ICC, a warning would have been enough.

I wonder what the decision would have been if there was a result.

I wonder how the next pitch will be after this demerit point.

Much deserved. A result was never possible. Test matches shouldn't be batting practices.

I want both Chittagong and Dhaka loose test status so Khulna , Cox’s bazar and sylhet become new venues ..
Enough of these sub par outfield and pitches

BCB won't fine ICC though since it's not Tamim.

Jokes aside, I hope this is a wake up call. Enough of these ridiculous pitches and outfield.

This doesn't make any sense. The same pitch would avoid demerit points if either team batted very poorly and the match produced a result.

Its like the ICC suddenly calling chuckers starting in 2014.

Not a bad thing. 5 points in 5 years and the venue gets banned for 12 months. Win WIn situation.

We don't play enough games to get 5 demerit points even if we got one in ever Test. And if by some way we did, its an excuse to play Tests elswhere instead of the same two venues every damn time.

I like this move from ICC. Recently Nagpur, Kanpur, MCG, Johannesburg and now CTG got warning/demerit points. Cricket administrators have been far too lazy for far too long and damaged the reputation and in turn popularity of test cricket. This system should have been introduced at least a decade ago.

Khocha ta bhaloi dilen

A couple of Indian venues were rated poor by ICC in the past, if I am not wrong. If the pitch is dangerous with uneven bounce or something like that then demerit points are justified, but giving negative rating just because the pitch is easy is laughable.

and BTW ICC is run by BCCI and BCCI is SLCB's bitch which I had already proved in some other thread, now you can connect the dots and draw the circle.

damn. Now I wish we got more demerit points. It's the only way BCB will schedule games in other venues.

These kind of pitches killing test cricket. 5 days of meaningless runs and bore feast.
After watching the jaw dropping Ind-SA test series, fans have to resort to this

Good on ICC for calling it out.

Not talking about about arm chair fans. Purists like me watch all test matches and last Sl-BD test was a bore feast.
