Default Bangladesh senior players reluctant to play Tests - BCB president

http://www.espncricinfo.com/story/_/...-bcb-president

Posted the link above, just want to highlight some points (short version for TL;DR)

- Seniors does not want to play, same also applies to Fizz although he didn't tell Nazmul that (but implied meaning).

- Says barring Australia/England no one else is really in interested especially since there is no money/broadcasters/fans behind it for TEST cricket.

- Trying to develop Test specialists, says need 5/6 of them, only Mominul is true test specialist. Also says can't drop Mini due to one bad series

- Lastly Fizz barred from having NOC for playing in T20 leagues for next 2 years due to injury history.

-------------------

This begs the question now.

Is it time to go with the West Indies approach?

Which is out with the old in with the new, they completely ditched all their ancient fossils from the team barring one or two guys (Gabriel/Holder/Braithwaite) and basically brought newer younger players to the team.

Think it's time that BD does the same thing barring keep one/two players, so it might be time if the seniors don't give a damn just to boot all of them (Shakib, Tamim, Mushfiq, Ullah), and bring in a young captain with a young team that has lots of growing pains.

although not lots of elite talent available there is atleast a core to work around.

batters: Shanto, Mosa, Mehedi, Mominul, Das, Saif, Zakir, Nurul etc (maybe even Anamul since he is only 26, I don't think Afif applies as a test cricketer so won't include him).

bowlers: this area is more tricky, jayed ebadat, Qazi Anik, Nayeem taijul is the core right now, if a older player then most likely roy, kamrul, and shahid if given another chance, especially if Fizz does not want to play, and the others have already been tried/failed or not format worthy (taskin/saiffudin).

It may be, if they really aren’t into it it’s probably better to start fresh with a new group, make mini captain, perhaps the naeem’s and tushar would like to play and then there will be some experience in longer format cricket even if it isn’t specifically experience in test cricket.

Add pacers like shoriful and mishu to the bowlers list.

Papon is just going with more nonsense.

Also, I don't think Liton Das is ready for International cricket. He is good as a flat track bully in tests but in the slightest bit of conditions favouring bowlers, he will give away his wicket. Also, his ODI and T20 average clearly indicate he still isn't good enough for the limited over games either. Qazi Onik has yet to play a first class game and I doubt you can put someone like that in the test squad. It's Mustafizur and Abu Jayed who should be first choice pacers.

The national teams seniors are reluctant.. senior players outside the national team like Tushar and Naeem aren't. Theyre doing well in FC cricket despite of how bad our FC is but more importantly would put up much more of a fight and fight for their place knowing their opportunities are limited.

Tushar, Naeem, Mossadek, Shanto, Zakir some names that come to mind.

simple just drop them and add the ones who are eager and have guts to play this level. Also put more attractive handsome salary reward for the test playing players so that they find it more beneficial for the career.

Starting to make sense why they performed like they did. No interest = don't even try during the match

No Tests means more HOLIDAYS and IPL, yay, and BD people will still go gaga and no one will say a word as long as one can score a 50 here and there to keep averages up and stay up in some irrelevant individual rankings

This is great news! Good riddance, Fos!
These certain 'senior players' soon will turn into Moteejheel/ Polton/ Kawran Bazzar/ Thatari Bazaar/DilKosha Banijjik Elaka's (commercial area) commission-bhookto Dalaals!
Kurbanir Goru-Khashi Bikri-commission/ Plot bikri/tender-baji/ghush adaan-prodaan etc. etc. will be the only way of leading their shameless lifestyle!
Another thing these Losers will do is scalp Mohammadan-Abahoni game tickets on match day outside the stadium!

Oh boy, this is a bombshell.

But I had predicted this more than 5 years ago when I said there was no real reason to play test cricket. Now funnily enough, since then I have come to appreciate and respect test cricket more. But of course, I along with many other guys who follow in the excess of 3 sports, we wouldn't actually care all that much if test cricket was abolished. That is the truth.

The current senior players are setting a bad example for future players.

They kicked out Haturi who wanted to push them to perform!

If this is the attitude of the seniors then I don’t think we should pursue with them.

The BD fans and media don’t care much that the seniors think this way about Tests. If this was said in UK or Australia , that player would have been ostracised.

Yeah you were onto this, something I started to really believe in the last year or so.

Question for fans? Even if they are the best, do you really want a player representing your country if they aren’t giving their best (and imo giving your best is more than just giving your best in a match, it’s the whole thing eg preparation, professionalism etc)

I don't think there is any evidence of this.

SA are getting rolled as badly or even worse than we did. Should we assume they aren't interested in Tests.

These are not pics of guys who doesn't care about Tests:

The way the team fought back from very difficult positions to beat England and Australia indicates they worked very hard to win those Tests. The victories didn't just fall into their lap.

We may not like their decision but if one does not like something, he/she will automatically not put the effort needed to excel in that something. Either way, no point on singling out our players, other players from different countries does it aswell. Chooses one day/T20 instead of test cricket. Everyone should get the right to choose to do what they think is the best for them, regadrless of if you and I agree to it or not. But the real question here is, why is TEST cricket still alive in this era?

Better to lose with hope then no hope.
Says little of the New Test Cricket,if they feel that way.
Also little Board can do.

As far as I know Tamim expressed his desire to play more test matches.

Quote:
“Those who started their Test career when I did have already played 80-90 Tests, whereas I’ve played just (42). It’s a bit sad for me. I just wish I could play more Tests – then I would’ve had more runs; my team-mates would’ve had more success,”
https://indianexpress.com/article/sp...adesh-2940833/

Shakib wanted a break from test cricket for 6 months. He was the only player to make such a request.

If what the board president said is true (he is known to say such things in front of the media)then there is no reason to make a test team out of players who are not interested to play tests in the first place.

Spine less Papon and BCB. If that is your untersanding, then why whine in public, do something ... Kick some of the non performing and no interested out ...why waste time..
Invest in players who are eager to learn and grow...

Yeah, I am also a bit skeptical about the claim that Shakib, Tamim & co. 'don't care' about Test cricket. These remarks by Shakib were from earlier this year:

"Test cricket is one of my top priorities and I intend to carry on playing Test cricket as long as I can. If you ask me, Bangladesh still doesn’t have enough quality Test players, so I feel it is very important I continue to play as long my form and fitness permits. As a child, my dream was playing in whites for my country and that dream has an impact on how I look at different formats. But I’m afraid the younger cricketers might not necessarily have the same view and it’s no surprise some of them prefer the shorter formats."

Exactly. This bloated hack acts like he's a victim. "ami koto kori, ora kichu korena"

Born with a silver spoon, the fat nosed git doesn't understand the concept of working hard to create change. This schmuck couldn't run a tea stand properly, let alone BCB.

If shakib puts test cricket as a top priority then why doesn’t he prepare for a series properly? Why doesn’t he give a good example to youngsters? By him preparing properly he’s getting the best out of himself and setting a good example to youngsters and if they follow suit then he’s getting the best out of his team.

^^ To be honest, I am not sure how much of a mentor Shakib is. Younger players look up to him, I suppose, but I don't know if he takes them under his wing. Correct me if I'm wrong...(?)

Yeah I’m not sure on that, but what I said above doesn’t require much from him as a mentor, prepare yourself well and it’s automatically a great example to youngsters, doesn’t have to do any extra mentoring...

I am not going into debate whether Shakib and Mustafiz really said that or Mr. Papon is just lying, but my question is, can a board force players to play any format against his will ? I know there is a contract and may be it's part of the contract that a board has all the rights and players have to obey that but when a player does not want to play a specific format then why forcing them to play ? That will only create more problem in the team than good for the team.

Anyway, whatever it is what else we can expect from Mr. Papon being Mr. Pop corn ! Ektu taap (chance) pailei faal parey !
