30 for freaking players? For what?

Usually prior to the World cup, teams would select a provisional 30 man squad

Who they pick for the final squad will depend on whether they are looking towards the WC or just trying to get the best team for this tournament. If they are thinking of the WC then they need to be picking some of the talent that hasn’t been given many opportunities and need experience.

IMO with shakib getting surgery, this is the perfect time to test out shanto in that number 3 position (since shakib has taken that position of late).

Might be good for the new Coach to get an overview of all the players available to him for WC 2019

This makes sense. But is it really what the coach wants?

Well he did want to see more players which is why he flew to Ireland. He needs to act fast to come up with a plan for WC 2019 since we lost so much time replacing Hathuru.

Mominul batted like a like headless chicken the last time i remember watching him in ODIs. He was flashing at everything outside off and unable to pick the gaps. I would keep expectations low unless he has somehow radically improved his odi game.

Mominul was very boundary reliant in the shorter formats, that was his main problem, looking at his 182 in Ireland he’s still very boundary reliant so I agree with the above, keep expectations low.

The squad is good, the only thing I’d say is maybe instead of a kamrul pick a qazi onik or young robiul or mishu.

Maybe select a youngster like towhid who has earned some recognition, would be a great experience for him. Other players in the front of my mind when discussing this is the batting allrounder al Amin and afif, we’ve got lower order issues, they could’ve got picked here as well.

Without Shakib this team would be heavily lacking in experience. I think Ash had some experience playing in UAE, also his knowledge is invaluable. Unfortunately he is not in contention as declared by Nannu

if anything Mithun Ali would be a better pick than Mominul. BCB have treated him unfairly with him being in and out of the team imo.

If Shak does not play, this would be my line up-

Tamim
Liton
Soumya
Mushfiq
Riyad
Mosaddek
Arif
Mash
Miraz
Fizz
Rubel

Bench: Rony, Rahi, Opu, Shanto

Time to axe the child beater.

Soumya-Mosaddek-Arif will have to make for 10 middle overs.

In case Shakib decides to take the surgery, the no.3 position would be vacant. They can try to test out Shanto there.

Fully agree about axing the child beater.

My XI will be same except:

1. No 3 should never be an opener. Thus I would prefer Mominul or Mosaddek at no 3.

3. If Mosaddek plays at no 3, need a replacement for him at no 6. May be Shanto?

Shanto is a number 3, I’d go with him at 3. For lower order prob should pick someone from the recent A team tour e.g. al Amin, falze mahmud, afif, mithun, possibly could try soumya since he can hit hard but then you are redefining his role, a risk that may or may not pay off.

Mithun Ali is not international quality. From what we have seen of him he has no technique/footwork. Mominul is not a hack like Mithun. Somebody like Siddons could have developed Mominul into a good ODI cricketer because once he gets set he scores big.

He picked up a hand injury on the A team tour. He must be out for a few months

Shanto should be in the squad, but so too should Mosaddek. People forget he has a list A average of 40. How many BD players have that?

Tamim
Liton
Shanto
Mosaddek
Mushy
Riyad
Shakib or someone who can hit big
Miraz
Mash
Rubel
Mustafiz

Bench: Rony, Apu, Afif, Shoriful

That would be my squad. Mishu should have been picked for Ireland A team instead of Khaled Ahmed.

Batting pitch naki moru bhumi (square turner)? Who are the host? Ind? Pak? Afghans? Who has control over the pitch?

at this point SS has no merit as an opener. I don't think it's much of a risk to put him lower order. He's still our best fielder and a great athlete. So why not try it?

Shanto is a natural 3, and coincidentally we have a huge need for a real 3 (which Shak isn't).

My XI without Shakib

Tamim
Liton
Shanto
Moss
Mushy
Mullah
Mash
Miraz
Afif
Fizz
Rubel

Not one that will win Asia cup, but then again we were never going to win even with Shakib. This could be a blessing in disguise if it gives Shanto an extended run. And if comes good like I think he will, that's a game changer for the WC.

Can we really risk Liton, Shanto and Mosaddek at 2,3,4 in the order? We could be 3 down before adding 30 runs to the total. I understand these are good young players but we need to give our best players the maximum number of overs and at the moment they are Shakib, Mushfiq and Ryad respectively. The reason we did well in WI was because Shakib came in early and took control of the game with Tamim.

Agreed. This would be a disaster.
