Default Mash speaks about the team ahead of 2019 Worldcup

A very nice interview by Mash. But didn't expect anything less

I can't endorse Anamul any more. He has to go.

However, Sarkar plays so effortlessly. His fielding is a plus. Bowling may come handy as we saw in the T20 series when Apu went down.

Liton, on the other hand, should remain with the team.

Mashrafe was talking about Shanto but he didn't play a single game so far in the A team tour in Ireland. This is very unusual. I wonder if he is even there in the first place.

Was wondering that as well, weird if shanto is in Ireland.

Sarkar is absolutely useless. If we are going to bring in a batsman who averages as much as a bowler does with the bat, might as well just put in an extra bowler. Still not sold on Liton as he isn't good outside of the power-play and only been a bit successful in the T20 format. Would rather see Shanto in the ODI.

I hold the same sentiment about Sarkar and Liton. Sarkar should never ever again be considered for internationals in any format. Liton did have an amazing day with he bat, but with any other top team would easily work him out with a plan. However Liton still looks like he can come good but needs more hard work.

Liton certainly needs more time, he’s getting better albeit slowly.

Sarkar has that amazing start, if he can get to that he’s still easily the best opener after tamim and in that form with that performance could bat anywhere in the order.

Shanto definitely deserves a run in ODIs, i don’t see a spot for mosaddek at this point (he has to bat at 3/4 and I think others are better suited atm).

I think zakir and al amin are interesting prospects, al amin as a late order bat and bowling some offies (prob better suited to lower order batting than mosa). Zakir is showing ability up the order.

Afif is another who I think needs some opportunities he could be good batting between 5-7 position and add some overs with the ball, seems to have the shakib type fight which is a very big plus imo.

I think for now the young bats to leave out are def sabbir and soumya due to form and already having extended runs, if they comeback to form we know what they can offer. Mosa would be the other, he’s pretty much a specialist number 4 who bowls a bit but I’m not sure we need that (def get him into the test team though).

For bowlers I think saifuddin maybe should get more chances, he’s done well for the A team.

Def give Rony more time.

Shoriful and Khaled have also done pretty well with the A team so might be worth giving some experience and having a look at.

Mosaddek definitely has a spot in the squad. We haven't seen our top order collapse against West Indies but it does happen and then we will be needing someone to come in between Mushfiq and Mahmudullah. Someone who can contribute with the bat and take away some of the pressure from these two.

Afif is definitely not ready for international cricket and hasn't made much of an impact in domestic cricket after that 5 wicket haul.

It would be hard to put Saifuddin in the ODI squad as 3 pacer spots are already taken (Mashrafe, Mustafizur and Rubel) and a 4th pacer would only work in pacer friendly conditions. Him not being a death over bowler also doesn't help him either.

I think shanto is a better option than mosa, mushy and riyad should really be batting at 6/7. I’d have Tamim, Liton, shanto, shakib in the top 5 then pick your 5th, maybe mosa but I want someone who can hit better so maybe try out al Amin in the 5th spot or even if al Amin plays down at 6 or 7 it would then allow Riyad and mushy to move up and bat more overs potentially. The issue I have with mosa is he needs more time than others to get his eye in and not just that but he doesn’t hit as big as the others so really unless he bats at 3, maybe 4 then he’s not going to be much use if the top order perform because he’ll be coming in later in the innings and we’d prob send others in ahead of him (whereas a shanto or an al amin we’d be happy still sending in).

Could bat shanto and mosa at 3/4 but ultimately I think we want better hitting options so he’ll constantly have that pressure unless he improves that part of his game.

Afif, his domestic numbers are good, especially for a youngster, and i know it was just Hong Kong 6s but he went against decent bowling and smashed them around quite handily. Bowling wise he’s handy but yeah with the lower order hitting issues/trying to find hard hitters then afif could be looked at.

As for pacers yes we have mash, fizz and rubel. What happens if they are injured for the WC? We need to groom back ups, those back ups need experience.

I’m looking at having enough players with experience that also have played enough so they are ready for World Cup and so we know who to pick and who not to pick.

Shanto is an opener and I would have him and Tamim partner up top. Liton Das has for far too often rid a whole series based on the form of a single game and his batting technique is quite flawed. I don't think he can get many runs outside of the powerplay, due to his extreme focus on the onside.

As for pacers, after those 3 comes in Abu Jayed and Abu Hider. Saifuddin should be given more games with the A team before being reselected for the national team. We definitely might need a pace allrounder for England and both Saifuddin and Ariful should be considered for it even if it is just for the squad and not starting XI.

Shanto is not an opener, he primarily started out as number 3, he’s generally batted from 3-5 most of his career.

As far as a pace allrounder, hate to say it but soumya is the best option for BD in that department atm.

Shanto and Anamul were Abahani openers for this years DPL. He became top scorer by opening the batting. Opening the innings definitely suits him.

There is no way Sarkar can be considered an all-rounder. He can't even bat anymore. Shakib just prefers giving the ball to Sarkar over Ariful due to his favouritism and only due to that he got selected. I would put Abu Hider as a better all-rounder than Sarkar.

There is no way Sarkar can be considered an all-rounder. He can't even bat anymore. Shakib just prefers giving the ball to Sarkar over Ariful due to his favouritism and only due to that he got selected. I would put Abu Hider as a better all-rounder than Sarkar.
I’d like to see how many times shanto has opened the innings, he’s far more experienced as a 3-5 batsman.

As far as soumya, don’t get the wrong idea, I’m not saying he’s amazing by any means but saifuddin isn’t ready as a bowler or batsman, abul is not an allrounder, I don’t think ariful is really much to write home about (I guess we will see with him as he’s hasn’t had many chances yet).

Cricketarchive is now subscription only so can’t check how many times shanto opened but looking at his cricinfo profile he opened for the last 3 innings in the DPl, with terrific results, but before that he was batting at 3. Pretty sure he’s only opened a handful of times, now he did well but was that because he suits opening or because he was in amazing form and he would’ve scored wherever he batted?

Almost all of the games for Abahani in this year's DPL.

Saifuddin has done more than Sarkar to be considered a bowler. Ariful was taking a lot of wickets in the First Class matches this year.

I think you need to check scorecards, shanto only opened in a small number, not most (saif opened with anamul in most games). In fact shanto got 133 not out and also 150 not out batting at 3 in the last series of DPL. You can look up the scorecards on cricinfo, I had to go to the 2018 DPL, click tables, click Abahani, then click results so I could check them because cricino wouldn’t let me see the cards any other way. The only matches shanto opened were the last 3.

I think people remember him as an opener because in those 3 matches he scored two tons and a half century.

I know saifuddin has done more as a bowler than soumya, but saifuddin has been brought up mainly as a bowler who can bat a bit and soumya primarily as a batsman. from what I saw last time saifuddin played in the national team the bowling between the two was not much different, and soumya has achieved more with the bat.

Probably if we pick a pace allrounder they won’t bowl much, this is why I say soumya is a better option at this point, maybe if saifuddin is given a lot of games he may become a better option as a bowling allrounder by WC, maybe not. But right now if we need a pace bowling allrounder who bowls a few overs soumya would be a better pick imo.

Ariful, FC wickets don’t mean much when selecting for ODIs or t20s, if he was alread6 an established international short format player coming back from injury and was taking wickets in the FC format then maybe, but otherwise we need to look at his short format bowling when selecting him for short formats.

Shanto also got 2 hundreds playing as an opener. He is comfortable in both positions and since Shakib is doing well at 3, he should open.

Sarkar has been a failure with the bat for the whole year and Saifuddin has been used as the 6th bowler in the ODI format getting few overs here and there. He was among the top wicket takers in BPL and can actually bat if given enough balls (shown against South Africa).

Ariful on the other hand has picked up wickets even for the A team when given enough overs to bowl. Him being a smasher of the ball, he can take Sabbir's place in the squad. He is one of those players who improve with maturity rather than rely on early talent to get into the national team.

Yeah Shanto is a natural #3, not an opener.

So is Anamul. These guys are all playing out of position because the Big 4 get precedence over where they want to bat especially in ODIs. Shakib is now batting at #3, which is OK because it means one of Mushy or Riyad will be at #5 and hopefully be able to bat till the very end.

I agree ariful has relied on maturity to get to the national team but let’s not forget despite his age he has been playing senior cricket for nearly 12 years (debut November 2006). He has been on the scene a long time, despite his early debut by BD standards he’s a late bloomer.
