Nazmul Huda: I will be the king of Gulshan

Nazmul Huda is certain of winning the polls.

Huda, a former BNP leader, will be contesting the upcoming general elections as an independent candidate from Dhaka 17 constituency after the Election Commission allocated him the "lion" symbol.

The constituency includes Gulshan, Banani, Dhaka Cantonment and a part of Bhashantek.

"My symbol is the lion," Nazmul Huda told reporters after receiving his symbol. "As you know, lions are kings of the jungle. And I will be the king of Gulshan; no one will be able to defeat me."

Timely thread.
Not sure if the election will be free and fair.

Dhaka-17 (my constituency) will be interesting. There are some heavyweight candidates.
Akbar Faruk ( Actor and freedom fighter)- AL
Hussain MD Ershad - JP
Andaleeve Partho - BNP (and JP-Naziur Manzu )
Nazmul Huda (king of Gulshan and Ex Corruption Minster , I mean communication minster) - Independent

Would be fun

Khaleda Zia has been prevented from polls.

Even though government used judiciary to repress their political opponent, I will gladly take minus one, even though I wish for minus two. A 75 years old semi educated lady has nothing else to give for Bangladesh.

We need young people in politics. But when I look around, I mostly see old people in politics everywhere around the world! SAD!

The court has given the right verdict in this case!

If businessmen, media personality, and sports personality can get nomination out of nowhere, what is the problem with Hero Alam getting nomination, after he painstakingly collected the signatures of 1% of his constituents?

What is wrong in our politics is lack of primary system, which allows complete top down control and autocracy within the team. In some seats, over fifty people purchased nomination forms, worth 30 thousand taka, but only one candidate was nominated at the end by the beloved, never questioned netri!

We badly need primary system so that people decide their nominee!

Some badly required major reforms for our political system:

1. Abolish the 70th article of the Constitution. The Constitution prevents MPs from voting against their own party at the floor, can you believe it?

2. Term limit at all levels of administration. Each person should be allowed to serve only one term at any elected office, be it the office of PM, MP, or city councilor.

3. Abolish 50 reserved seats for women because women are no longer behind men in BD interms of education and opportunities. Women are ahead of men. Instead, create a 50 member Senate or upper chamber in Sangsad, who should be selected based on total percentage of votes received. A similar system has been introduced by Nepal. Even though for example we see great discrepancy between political parties in terms of number of seats, there is actually not much difference in terms votes received. Also leftist and small parties receive considerable votes but are often underrepresented in the Parliament. To offset this discrimination, we badly need an upper chamber based on percentage of votes received.

4. The President may remain our ceremonial head but may be allowed more powers like vetoing a bill. Also the president should not be elected by the votes of MPs only, rather he should be elected based on the votes of MPs, jela proshashoks, upazilla and union parishad chairpersons.

5. Constitution should be amended to make primary election mandatory within the political parties such that people choose their nominee.

Despite having a clear reason to disqualify the nomination of K Zia, two returning officers provided reason that is comical and embarrassing to say the least. It is difficult to say if it was an intentional mistake or real ignorance.

The article also highlights other willful glaring irregularities when it comes to application of laws. Ihakei bola hoy ainer nijoshsho gotite chola!

Hasina going to win this election as she has ruthlessly by getting rid of politicians using the Razzakar card and now getting some of the candidates by getting the courts to disqualify them. She has overseen many uprisings using her goons and the police.

Hero Alam is a man the common person can associate with from his area which is why he was being regularly disqualified. He might be a topic of ridicule, but his local popularity will get him votes, but I doubt he will win though.

Historically, AL is always strong in rural areas. BNP /Jamaat is strong in Urban centres.
There are few exceptions..
BNP is also strong in Bogra (Ziaur Rahman''s home) and Feni (Khaleda Zia's home). If Election is free and fair than almost all the seats in Chittagong Division will also go in favor of BNP/Jamaat/Oli Ahmed.

Sylhet Division is always neck and neck...

these are very good points except number 2 - i think you have to give someone a potential second chance otherwise incentive to do things for ppl to get their votes again diminishes significantly.

BD system does not sound like democracy. System is made to suppress rise of new visionaries and PM has complete control over everything. Scary.

Cant agree with this. How can suppressing a political opponent ever a good thing?

Say whatver you like about Hasina's formal education but she is a brilliant lady and appears to have complete domination of BD's political system. Wrong or right I am not gonna debate but I highly respect and admire a lady who can do that. Hasina >> hillary if put in similar condition. I want Hasina on my side if I ever need something.

I just love a story of a girl whose family was murdereed cold blooded grows up to take revenge on everyone.
