Default word

rana should be there and so should Jr.

but look at the bright side. now we have a solid 12-13 guys who all deserve to make the team and which makes our team selection tough. however this shows our real improvements and makes it so that if anyone under performs is the first test we dont have to worry about keeping for the second test. Isn't this the reason for the initial 15 man squads that leave for every tour?

i'll be willing to bet that rana and/or Jr will play in the second.

i just realized that i don't know what the squad is for the 1st test, lol.

The only person who troubled Smithy was Rana, now he's out, good luck anyhow, will be great game tomorrow.

Weather should be ok, *if* it does rain then it wont last the whole day, there should definitely be play.

I think Jr. has been sent back. Rana is still there, may not be in the first 11.

No I don't think Jr. is sent back. They have 15member squad. The 12 is for the first test only.

i'd be less surprised if they changed sumon/rajin for rana. since the ENG series, what did mushfiq do to stay in the team? rana did much better.
since the zim PRACTICE match, what did tareq do to stay in the team?
if we are to make an one person team, it would be rana.

WRONG!
if we had a one person team we should pick RAFIQ.
if we had a two person team we should pick Rafiq and PILOT.
IF WE HAD A THREE PERSON TEAM WE SHOULD PICK RAFIQ, PILOT AND RANA.

I also want to see Rana in the team; but who do you drop to make a place for him. Dropping a batsman is probably not a good idea since that is our weakness. If Rana had 10+ test under his belt with the current batting average, I could risk replacing one of the batsman for him.

Can't drop the keeper.

Since this is a pace friendly wicket, I think you want to have as many as you can get. WI is probably going with 4.

That leaves us with Rafiq. Looking at his 3 ODI performance, one might say that he should be dropped. But, he does better in test. So, who would you drop?

bhobishot, i've to disagree with u on your point that rana is not a batsman. true that he entered the team as a bowler who can bat a bit too, but when it came in to practice he is proven to be a better batsmen than anyone who is playing in the team, anybatsman or any of the useless bowler. doesn't matter what kind of pitch is, players like tareq aziz or alamgir are utter useless by any means. they might do good against teams like zim A or namibia, but when sent against real players, they are simply nothing. so, whats it come up to? we could have him in place of 4 out of 6 so called batsmen: javed, rajin, sumon, faisal. i can only keep ash and hannan where rana can't play. and in terms of bowler only rafiq and tapash stays away. so does pilot for obvious reason.

this is just dumb that rana is not playing.

ill say again...

if Rana is out of de team, then what a mistake that may be! Smithy will have a field day, and catching up with Cairn's sixes record, and the WI pace bowlers will have one less talented BD batsman to worry about.

Rana was good at LBW'ing people, and guess who's good at getting LBWed? Lara.

EngWIndian,

the BD think tank should learn from experts like you and put Rana back in.

Rana is actually an unorthodox type batsman. So far his lucks favoured him.But I'm not sure how far he can go...

what u mean by unorthodox type batsman? can u explain a bit? i never seen him play, so i've to idea what u are talking about. even though i believe fortune favores the braves, your explanation might give some light of what they are thinking.

i'd say bashar is also pretty unorthodox and that luck's been on his side a lot as well...

the most "orthodox" batsman in the bd team is, i'd say, alok kapali...also ashraful...i like their technique, but their shot selection sucks.

It's true fortune favours the braves but not always. I'm talking about his batting technique. It seems to me that he could be out any time in those matches. He is basically a frontfoot player & does not have solid defence. Most of the time he used predetermined shots. But he is a young guy so has enough time to learn.

yes he does have enough time...

bashar also looks like he'll get out any time...so does most BD batsmen...

I agree with reverse-swing - Rana is not particularly good in batting technique, if it was any other time, then I would also disagree with the rest of you and agree with reverse-swing, that Rana is not a specialist batsman, doesn't have a good technique, front footed player etc., etc.

However, the time now has forced me to see things differently. That is, I am afraid I have to sing the chorus of 'why is Rana not in the team', especially because of his good form - both with the ball and the bat.

I would (actually, circumstances made me say) say that Rana is not in the team because he drops catches.

Because I see no apparent reason to drop him - not when he is in such a good form.

However, it is also true that we are almost certain to have relatively permanent batting line up - for now. That is, there is no question of dropping Hannan Sarkar, Javed Omar, Habibul Bashar, Rajin Saleh and Mohammad Ashraful from the squad, not at least right now, and definitely not from the test squad.

I must say now that probably Foisal Hossain has impressed the team management too much so that they are making this tough-er decision of including Foisal over Rana. I haven't seen Foisal's batting much, so I can't say if Foisal is a much much better batsman than Rana or not.

There is one more thing - Mushfique must take wickets or score some runs in the 1st test match. Because I can foresee in my magic ball that if Mushfique doesn't score and/or doesn't take wickets, and if Foisal scores some runs - spends some valuable time at the crease, then Rana could very well replace Mushfique in the 2nd test.

Besides, I don't think too many sides go into a test match with 2 specialist all-rounders. So that is a factor of not including Rana as well - not to include too many generalists instead of specialists.

AgentSmith,
I don't know whether Rana is a batsman or not. It looks like the coach and the selector is not considering him as a batsman. I am afraid his averages are pretty skewed. I hope it stays where they are and if it does then we will have the best batsman in the country.
