Default Muralitharan would be unavailable

World record test wicket-taker Muttiah Muralitharan withdrew from Sri Lanka's tour of Australia on.

Muralitharan wrote in his letter, that he would be unavailable for personal reasons.

Australian Prime Minister John Howard calling him a "chucker".

Muralitharan was called for throwing on two previous visits to Australia, leading to lasting resentment between the two teams.

"It's obviously very disappointing," Cricket Australia (CA) chief executive James Sutherland told a news conference in Melbourne.

Disappointing which one, chucker called by an honorable elected white prime minister of a wealthy country or a sportsman keeping himself far to avoid any further controversial episode?

Back home, Howard's words were seen for what they were: a politician shooting his mouth off on a subject he knew little about. It was unfortunate but, ultimately, a bit of a giggle.

Around the rest of the cricket-playing world his comments were viewed through a racist prism. This was as unavoidable as it was unfair. After all, >>>>>>>>>>more

John Howard, the straw that broke the camel's back. Politicians, across boundaries, they are the cause of much trouble with humanity. I wish Murali had gone in & took 5+ in every innings. Now that would have been fantastic.

"I have decided on my own and it is for personal reasons. It is not due to Australia or the public.

Poppycock. Murali made so many comments behind his reasoning before pulling out.
