Default Pakistan beat South Africa, Afridi plays lead role

Afridi plays lead role in Pakistan's victory

SUTTON COLDFIELD, Sept 10: Shahid Afridi shone with both bat and the ball as Pakistan secured a 24-run win against South Africa in their warm-up match at Walmley on Thursday.

Afridi made 59 to help Pakistan reach 227 for eight in 50 overs. Younis Khan, leading the side, helped himself to 51 while left-hander Imran Farhat hit 40. Charl Langeveldt was the best of South African bowlers. He claimed four for 34. Makhaya Ntini, coming on as first change, took two for 34.

South Africa, who suffered a 5-0 whitewash in the recent ODI series in Sri Lanka, were dismissed for 203 in 48.2 overs despite a second-wicket partnership of 87 between Herschelle Gibbs (38) and skipper Graeme Smith (59).

Shaun Pollock was the other main run-getter with 35 before he was last out to Shoaib Akhtar, who finished with three for 43. Abdul Razzaq, however, was most successful wicket-taker with four for 48.

Afridi completed a good day for himself by claiming - taking the wickets of Martin van Jaarsveld and Robin Peterson - two for 27 in eight overs. Pakistan open their Champions Trophy campaign when they meet Kenya in Pool 'C' at Edgbaston on Tuesday.

Don't worry, i hope they loose to Bangladesh too.

and the people that dream, are the people who succeed.

also, Pakistan is coming back really good now. Two matches with the Ossiez, and both of them tight matches. Seems to me like Pak is back!

I'd hate for South Africa to be inconsistent and win against Bangladesh.

Dreams need to be backed by work. BD were not good enough to last for even 32 overs against SA. With such batting, they will not win against any decent side in the world.
