I don't like James's Bangladesh song cos he just copied Ayub Bacchu's one. And his Bangladesh song is a bit of cheap one.

sorry mate, cant agree with ya this time.
James Bangladesh and Bacchu Bangladesh is completely different song, and both great.

Infact, IMHO, James Bangladesh is probably one of the best ever song written about Bangladesh. it sings about all the heroes we had and reflects the history and culture of our country.

personally, i love that song.

but then again, u have the right to hv your own opinion.

It's true both songs says different things but in one sense both are same, both songs tell about our country. And it was Aiyub Bacchu who sang this type of special song among the pop bands. Besides James's song was a bit dull, music composition was poor (to me, don't know what people thnk but Ayub bacchu's one was the popular in Bangladesh) and he sang the song the way he is used to sing.

Are any of you listening to bangladeshi band BLACK? They are quite interesting - I guess the first attempt to psychedelic rock in bangla. It's worth trying - the first song of their first album 'Ekhono', the last song of this album (I forgot the name), and the song 'Shloak' of their second album are just awesome! Their tune is completely different than any other bands in Bangladesh.

NTV (in the US) had an interview last week with Anila, a NY based Bagladeshi singer. She was in the album Krantii which came out a year or two ago? I thought I had it from recent Dhaka trips but can't find it right now...does anyone have a link for downloads from that album?

Don't understand why this was merged with the "Rock and Roll" thread...very different IMO.

Listened to quite a few albums today
------------------------------
Franz Ferdinand - Franz Ferdinand
Different Class - Pulp
Room On Fire - The Strokes
White Blood Cells - The White Stripes
You Are The Quarry - Morrissey

I think that's all...

Well, there are about 2 gigs of Bangla songs on my iPod that get played very frequently. They are a mix of oldies (Hemanta, Manna De, Satinath, Kishore, Talat Mahmud, Shyamal Mitra, Haimanti, Asha, Lata, Sandhya), Rabindra Sangeet (mainly Debabrata), Nazrul Geeti, some Pop/Adhunik/Modern from when I was a kid (Azam Khan, Ferdous Wahid, Sabina Yasmin, Abdul Jabbar, Runa Laila), and a few contemporary artists (Hyder Husyn, Habib, Samina Chowdhury).

Now, I am in my thirties, grew up in Bangladesh, and have been living in the States for the last fifteen years or so; Bangla songs from my youth resonate with me on a strong, nostalgic level. But quite a few of the posters here are younger; at that age, novelty and challenging melodies are likely to be more appealing. I suspect that is why you are not seeing that many Bangla listeners.

right now listening to some বর্ণমালা শিখিcd that my 23 month old has taken a liking to today. It's not particularly good - but he's learning his ক খ গs so no complaints. Before that, i was listening to Gnarles Berkley (sp) and নিলয় দাস্.
