Bangladesh 264/9 (90 ov)
Another solid rear-guard action by the Bangladesh later order brought Bangladesh
to 264/9 after having been 97/5 at one stage. Numbers 10 and 11, Tapash Baisya
and Tarq Aziz, were still at the crease when stumps were drawn having put on
an unbeaten 26 runs for the last wicket. Rajin Saleh top scored for Bangladesh,
narrowly missing his half century, with 47. Omari Banks was the pick of the
West Indian bowlers with 4 wickets for 80 runs.
On a lively Sabina Park pitch, Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat. Hannan
Sarkar was again gone first ball, leaving a inswinging Pedro Collins ball and
was trapped LBW (0-1). Habibul Bashar steadied the ship with some fine shots
but was out to mistimed pull shot to Omari Banks (2-37) for 20. With this score,
Bashar now has achieved the 2000 Test runs milestones - he now has 2002. Javed
Omar was caught off of Fidel Edwards on first change for 20 (3-53). Rajin Saleh
and Mohammad Ashraful prevented any further mishaps and Bangladesh reached a
respectable 73 for 3 at lunch.
Ashraful departed for 16, caught by Sarwan off of Omari Banks (4-88) after
a 35 run partnership. Manjural Islam Rana made his first appearance for Bangladesh
and was out fishing at a Best delivery - caught by Jacobs behind the stumps
(5-97). Mushfiqur Rahman and Rajin Saleh then held things steady until He went
for a big hit off a flighted Omari banks delivery. He missed and in the process
dragged his feet outside the crease and Jacobs removed the bails. The third
umpire was called and the red light flashed and ended a very useful 45 run partnership
(145-6). Rajin Saleh soon followed offering an easy catch back to Omari Banks
(152-7) just missing out on his half century at 47.
As usual, the late order played with spunk and heart and everyone contributed
to useful partnerships. Mohammad Rafique scored a breezy 30 off of 40 balls
with 5 hits to the fence before being caught by Collins off of Banks. First
Test hero, Khaled Mashud went on to score a resilient 39 in 82 balls with several
glorious cover drives. He fell to Collins (9/238). Tapas Baisya and Tareq Aziz
navigated the new ball fairly well, with Tapas unbeaten on 34 and Tareq on 4.
