Sensational win for Bangladesh

The tigers finally roared today at the Marrara Oval in Darwin as an inspired Bangladesh team won the closely fought 3rd warm-up match against NTCM here on Sunday. Bangladesh won the match by 2 wickets after Khaled Mahmud hit the winning runs to take his team to a sensational win.

Set 187 to win the 3rd and final warm-up match before the first test, the tourists started the fourth day at 90/4, still 97 behind a win. Al Shahriar Rokon became the unlikely hero for Bangladesh as he hit a stroke filled 41 runs to guide Bangladesh home. Khaled Mashud, the former Bangldeshi captain gave him some able support chipping in with 12 runs in a useful partnership of 32 along with Rokon. That partnership set the foundation for an unlikely win for the Bangladeshis. He was given some able support by Alok Kapali, who most surprisingly came in at no.7. Alok Kapali hit a useful 18 runs and he along with A Rokon took Bangladesh to a comfortable looking 167/5.

A mini collapse then occured as Bangladesh lost 3 quick wickets for 8 runs. Micheal Clarke, the captain of the NTCM side and a known Australian player chipped in with his off-spinners to dismiss the set batsmen A Rokon. Bangladesh at this stage were starting to struggle at 175/8, still 12 runs away from victory with just 2 wickets in hand. It was the captain of Bangladesh side, Khaled Mahmud and his cool head which took Bangladesh to the sensational victory. Most justificably, he hit the winning runs as well. Mashrafe-Bin-Mortaza provided him with some useful support as he chipped in with 4. For the hosts, Nathan Hauritz, was the main wicket taker as he took 2/48 off his 23 overs despite having a broken finger. He injured his finger yesterday while batting when being hit off a Masri delivery.

The next match for the Bangladeshis is the first test against Australia at this very ground in Darwin. 2 wins in 2 matches could provide a useful confidence booster to the Bangladeshis as they try and do an unlikely thing of beating Australia. Whatmore, their coach is going to the main source of inspiration. he has started knowing our cricketers very well and knows about their strengths. With him, the Bangladeshi players have really started believing that they can win matches. So, I say Good luck Bangladesh for a good performance in the 1st test.
