Bangladesh opened their World Cup campaign with a convincing
8 wicket win over Bermuda at the Antigua
Recreation Ground in Antigua. In a perfect dress rehearsal for the
two teams rematch for the world cup proper, Bermuda won the toss and decided
to bat. Despite some early hiccups, they recovered well to post 205 for
8 in the allotted 50 overs. Bangladesh rested pacers Mashrafee Murtaza
Masri and Shahadat Hossain Rajib for this match. Unfortunately, Tapash
Baishya and Syed Rasel failed to impress and the spinners looked a little
rusty.
The Bangladesh innings featured an unbeaten century (104 off 112) from
opener Shahriar Nafees, his fourth in one-day internationals. He enjoyed
two contrasting partnerships. The match winning partnership of 134 runs
with Saqib (42 off 70) was followed by a whirlwind 58 runs second wicket
partnership with Aftab Ahmed (40 off 27).
Bangladesh takes on Canada in their next match on February 28.
