The three-day practice match between BCB XI and touring South Africa ended in a draw at NOS today, but not before the BCB XI batsmen forced the tourists to toil for most part of the final day. BCB XI batted superbly to take a first innings lead over the tourists before declaring at 412 for 9.
Rain further frustrated the tourists as it denied them the much needed batting practice before the first Test which starts on Friday at Mirpur Sher E Bangla Stadium.
Resuming the day on 263/5, BCB XI skipper Shakib Al Hasan and young Raqibul Hasan dominated the first session of the days play and shared a 110 run 6th wicket partnership between them. Left-handed Shakib added 53 runs to his overnight tally of 20 runs with the help of 14 boundaries before being caught behind off Johan Botha for 73.
Roqibul made a patient 44 off 92 balls before he was also caught behind Boucher off Dale Steyn to give the South African pace spearhead his only scalp of the match. Later, Mushfiqur Rahim batted sensibly with Farhad and Enamul Jr. to to help BCB XI past the visitors' total.
BCB XI declared at 412 for 9 when Mushfiqur Rahim fell to Botha who was the pick of the South African attack with 4 wickets for 76 runs.
The much talked Proteas pace trio, Dale Steyn, Makhaya Ntini and Andre Nel, could only manage 3 wickets between them which will be a cause for concern for the South Africa management.
South Africa made 47 for no loss with Graeme Smith (32) and Ashwell Prince (9) remaining unbeaten when rain prevented further play 10 minutes before tea.
