South Africa continued their dominance over the hosts as they eased to 9 wicket victory in the first ODI of the three-match Warid Telecom series at Chittagong Divisional Stadium on Sunday.
Bangladesh won the all important toss on a batting surface, but none of the Bangladesh batsmen except opener Tamim Iqbal could offer any resistance against the spirited South Africa attack. Tamim top scored with a finely constructed 82 off 98 deliveries.
The second highest score of the Bangladesh innings came from debutants Roqibul Hasan and Dhiman Ghosh who could only manage 15 runs each on a sorry day for Bangladesh batting. Bangladesh were finally bundled out for 178 in 48.2 overs.
South African captain Graeme Smith lead his side's reply from the front and remained unbeaten on 103 as South Africa stormed into the winning target with 13.1 overs to spare. Smith was adjudged man of the match for his 118 ball 103 with the help of 14 boundaries and 1 six.
The two sides will meet again for the second ODI at Mirpur Sher E Bangla Stadium on Wednesday.
