Asia Cup, 2008

India ease to victory despite Alok heroics

28 June 2008

A match winning 139 run partnership between Suresh Raina and Gautam Gambhir helped India to eclipse Bangladesh's competitive 283 for 7 in 43.2 overs and secure an easy win in the first match of the super four stage of the Asia Cup 2008.

Bangladesh fielders were in generous mood as they failed to hold on simple catches and were heavily punished by the duo. After the departure of Gambhir, Yuvraj joined Raina, and stepped up the tempo and shared a breezy 89 run partnership to bat out Bangladesh from the match.

Earlier, Alok Kapali produced a dazzling 115 off 96 deliveries and guided Bangladesh to 283 for 7, their highest ever ODI total against top 8 teams. Alok shared a record 6th wicket 112 run partnership with Mahmudullah in just 14.3 overs.
