Bangladesh succumbed to a humilating 9 wicket loss against Australian Institute of Sports (AIS) in the final warm up match of the four match series at Gardens Oval in Darwin today. AIS raced to victory with 13.4 overs and 9 wickets to spare after Bangladesh could only manage 229 for 9 in the stipulated 50 overs.
AIS opener Usman Khawaja capped his brilliant performance in the warm up series with a dazzling century and one down Michael Hill remained unbeaten on 87 as they made Bangladesh bowlers to toil. They shared a match winning 156 run partnership in the 3rd wicket.
Earlier, Bangladesh were sent to bat by AIS skipper Moises Henriques. Bangladesh openers failed to give the necessary start and departed playing reckless shots with only 24 runs on board. Bangladesh skipper Mohammad Ashraful produced yet another forgettable display and scored only 4 runs before returning to the pavillion. Wickets fell at regular interval and Bangladesh were soon reduced to 95/5 in 21.5 overs.
Alok Kapali tried to rescue the sinking Bangladesh, but his fine 62 was ended by a harsh LBW decision and Bangladesh's target to post a big score was all but over. Bangladesh finally managed 229, but it was never enough to challenge the home team.
Bangladesh will play their final warm up match before against Northern Territory Chief Minister's XI on 27 August.
