Pakistan eased to a 70 run victory over a lackluster Bangladesh in the opening match of the tri-nation Kitply Cup at Sher E Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka today. Chasing a victory target of 234 in the rain affected match, Bangladesh failed to show any signs of competitiveness as they scrambled to 163 for 8 in the stipulated 40 overs.
Shahid Afridi and Wahab Riaz bagged 3 wickets each to skittle Bangladesh top order in the one-sided encounter. Bangladesh captain Mohammad Ashraful played a subdued 93 ball 56
but never showed any intent to chase down the score as wickets fell regularly at the other end. Opener Tamim Iqbal's 38 ball 29 was the only other notable score as the batsmen failed miserably on a good batting wicket.
Earlier, Bangladesh won the toss and invited Pakistan to bat first under cloud cover. Bangladesh quicks failed to utilize the condition and their below-par effort was heavily punished by the Pakistan top order. Salman Butt's breezy 70 coupled with Mohammad Yousufs aggressive 59 helped Pakistan to post a formidable total in the curtailed match.
However, Bangladesh bowlers managed to restrict the Pakistani onslaught in the death overs as the last 5 Pakistani wickets fell for only 6 runs. Alok Kapali and Abdur Razzak picked 3 wicket each but it was too late to make any impact in the outcome of the match.
