England in Bangladesh, 2010

Bangladesh make England struggle

21 March 2010

Bangladesh again took the honors of the day as they restricted England to 171 for 3 at the close of day 2 at the Sher E Bangla stadium at Mirpur. Resuming on 330 for 8, Bangladesh added 89 runs to their total; courtesy of maiden Test half centuries from number 10 Shafiul Islam and number 8 Naeem Islam.

Naeem Islam remained unbeaten on a patient 59 which held the Bangladesh lower order together while Shafiul Islam added 45 runs before he was caught behind by Matt Prior off Tim Bresnan for 53.

In reply, England lost their skipper Alistair Cook early on, but Jonathan Trott and Kevin Pietersen steadied England in the post lunch session. Resuming on 94-1 at tea, England lost the wickets of Kevin Pietersen (45) and Paul Collingwood (0) in the final session of the day. Trott was unbeaten on 64 at the end of the day along with Ian Bell on 25. The visitors are still trailing by 248 runs in the first innings and a good first session tomorrow for Bangladesh can help the hosts to take complete control of the Test match.
