A habitual brain freeze by Bangladeshi batsman coupled with an impressive swing bowling from Zaheer Khan helped India to win the 2nd Test by 10 wickets and take the series 2-0 at Mirpur Sher E Bangla Stadium in Mirpur today. Zaheer bagged 7 wickets for 87 runs and bagged his maiden 10 wicket haul as Bangladesh were routed for 312 runs. India needed only 2 runs to ensure the crushing win on the post-lunch session of day 4 which promised an entertaining day of cricket in the morning.
Bangladesh resumed the day on 228 for 3 and raised the hope of their fans by cruising to 290 for 3 after negotiating the first hour of the morning session. However, they imploded spectacularly by losing their last 7 wickets for only 22 runs on a placid surface.
It was again the lack of temperament and reckless shots which caused the downfall of the Bangladesh batsmen. Skipper Shakib Al Hasan epitomized the lack of Test match temperament by playing a needless shot which reached as far as Gautam Gambhir at square leg just after hitting a Six off the first ball he faced. Rest of the Bangladeshi batsmen joined the procession in front of the shell shocked spectators and fans watching on the television.
Bangladesh think-tank also showed their severe lack of match understanding as they sent the in-form batsmen Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah Riyad at number 8 and 9 position, respectively and out-of-form Raqibul and Shakib Al Hasan at number 4 and 5, respectively when the situation demanded otherwise.
Bangladesh's next assignment is against New Zealand which starts on 3 February with a one off Twenty 20 match at Hamilton.
