A brilliant all-round performance by Shakib Al Hasan guided Bangladesh to 9 run victory by Duckworth Lewis method in the rain affected first ODI of the 5-match Micromax ODI series at Sher E Bangla Stadium in Dhaka today. Shakib scored a breezy 58 runs off 51 deliveries which was the cornerstone of Bangladesh's total of 228 all out in 49.3 overs. The leading all-rounder of the world then spun magic with the ball as he grabbed 4 wickets for 41 runs to gun down New Zealand.
In reply, New Zealand were off to a brilliant start courtesy of 45 ball 61 by Brendan McCullum but Shakib changed the scenario in the 15th over by getting two quick wickets and bring Bangladesh back to the match. A rain delay resulted in a revised target of 210 in 37 overs, but the Bangladeshi bowlers kept things tight and once Naeem picked up the vital wickets of Vettori and Ross Taylor, Bangladesh went slightly ahead in calculations.
Shakib then returned to get Nathan McCullum and Bangladesh managed an unlikely 9 run victory to take 1-0 lead in the 5 match series.
