Bangladesh comprehensively defeated Zimbabwe by 65 runs in the 3rd ODI of the 5-match micromax cup ODI series to take a 2-1 series lead in Mirpur today. Bangladesh suffered early wobbles after sent to bat but Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan settled nerves of the home fans with a 116 run 5th wicket partnership with wicketkeeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim. The pair lifted Bangladesh to 187/5 from 71/4 and some late stroke play by Naeem Islam and Mashrafe Mortaza in the power play overs pushed Bangladesh total to 246, well beyond the capabilities of the tourist batsmen.
Shakib top-scored with 73 runs while Mushfiq scored a fluent 63, his first 50-plus score in 16 innings. Prosper Utseya picked up 4 wickets for Zimbabwe for 38 runs.
In reply, Zimbabwe were skittled to 47/6 by the left arm spin of Abdur Razzak. The match was all but over for the tourists from that point onwards although former skipper Prosper Utseya battled hard to take the score to 181 all out in 48.1 overs. Paceman Shafiul Islam ended the lone vigil of Utseya and cleaned up the tail with career best bowling of 4 wickets for 43 runs. Razzak continued his fine run of form and bagged 4 wickets for a miserly 14 runs.
Last 2 matches of the series will be played in Chittagong with the 4th ODI scheduled on Friday 10 December 2010.
