Sunny stars in Chittagong draw

A sporting declaration by Bangladesh on the 5th day of the rain-affected first test between Bangladesh and West Indies was not enough as the ended in a draw  when the two captains agreed a draw in the final session with the visitors needing to chase down 226 for victory were 100 for two.

Put into bat, Bangladesh started well on the first day with 255-4 with captain Mushfiqur Rahim unbeaten on 68. Then the next two days of play were lost because of rain and a damp outfield. Resuming on the 4th day, Bangladesh declared with their score at 350/9. Elias Sunny had a magnificent debut having taken 5 wickets on the 4th and 1 more on the 5th as the West Indies were bowled out for 244 in their first innings.

Bangladesh declared their second innings closed at their tea total of 119/3, with left-handed Shahriar Nafees (50) scoring his sixth Test half-century.

Sunny was declared man of the match and also became the third Bangladeshi to bag six wickets in an innings on debut. The second and final Test starts in Dhaka on October 29.
