Bangladesh crash out of World Cup 2011

19 March 2011

A hapless Bangladesh was thumped by 206 runs by South Africa in the crucial group B encounter at Mirpur Sher E Bangla Stadium in Mirpur today. With this loss Bangladesh crashed out of the world cup and ended the campaign with 6 points from 6 matches. Chasing a victory target of 286 to seal a quarter final berth, Bangladesh lost their way from the very beginning and were never in a position to take control of the must win encounter. They were finally bowled out for a paltry 78 in the 28th over which is the third lowest total of the current world cup. 10 out of 11 Bangladeshi batsmen failed to reach the double figure with only skipper Shakib Al Hasan managing 30 from 49 deliveries.
