Bangladesh Win Series after Late Drama
8 December 2012 Bangladesh managed to hold their nerve and pull off a tense chase as they won the 5th ODI by 2 wickets and won the 5 match ODI series 3-2 after restricting the tourists to 217 at Mirpur Sher E Bangla Stadium in Dhaka today. There was chaos and drama before the winning run was scored by Nasir Hossain as Elias Sunny failed to complete a run in the previous ball and started to celebrate prematurely. West Indies attempted a run out amid the confusion, but luckily no one was considered out of the crease and play resumed. In the next delivery Nasir smashed a boundary to put all the confusion to bed and clinch the series for Bangladesh. This is Bangladesh's second ODI series win at home against a top opposition after securing a 4-0 whitewash against the Kiwis in October 2010.
Bangladesh skipper Mushfiqur Rahim won the toss and invited West Indies to bat first considering the spin heavy Bangladesh attack and the evening dew factor. Bangladesh started positively by reducing West Indies to 17 for 3 in 7.2 overs. West Indies started the repair job through Darren Bravo and Kieron Pollard who soon cut loose and threatened to bat Bangladesh out of the game as he smashed 8 sixes in a 132 run stand with Bravo.
Bangladesh managed to remove Pollard in the 32nd over of the match through part time spinner Mominul Haque and West Indies innings spectacularly imploded to 217 all out from a commanding 149 for 3. Shafiul Islam picked 3 wickets while Mahmudullah and Mominul bagged 2 wickets each to derail the West Indies innings.
Bangladesh's chase started in the worst possible way as they suddenly found themselves on 30 for 3 and repeat performance of 4th ODI was a realistic possibility. However, Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim and vice captain Mahmudullah revived Bangladesh through a positive 91 run partnership in 12.4 overs. West Indies again came back strongly by removing both them leaving Bangladesh on 133 for 5 still needing 85 runs for victory.
Nasir Hossain and young Mominul Haque resisted any further damage through a vital 51 run partnership and Sohag Gazi chipped in with a useful 19 before the late drama and chaotic finish to secure series win for Bangladesh.
Samuels Guides West Indies to Victory
5 December 2012 A patient century from Marlon Samuels kept West Indies alive in the 5-match Sahara Cup ODI series as the tourists recorded a 4 wicket win in the 3rd match at Sher E Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur today. Bangladesh were sent to bat by West Indies skipper Darren Sammy and struggled against the spin of Sunil Narine for the first time in this tour as they slumped to 110 for 5 in the 23rd over of the match.
Bangladesh skipper Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah revived Bangladesh through a 58 run partnership, but the dismissal of Mushfiqur in the first over of the batting powerplay again pegged them back. Mushfiqur played a poor shot on 38 and Bangladesh struggled at the death to accelerate and finally bowled out for 227 in 49.1 over.
Bangladesh bowlers led by Mashrafe Mortaza fought hard to defend the modest total, but at the end Marlon Samuels century was the difference between the two sides. Bangladesh also dis not help their cause as they missed couple of chances which , if taken, could have been crucial. The two sides meet again on 7th December at the same for the 4th ODI.
Bangladesh Record Biggest ODI Win to Take 2-0 Lead
2 December 2012
Bangladesh comprehensively defeated West Indies by 160 runs to record their biggest ever win in ODI to take a 2-0 lead in the 5 match Sahara Cup ODI series at Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna today. Bangladesh rode on maiden ODI century by young opener Anamul Haque to post 293 for 6 in 50 overs after West Indies won the toss and opted to bowl first. Bangladesh spinners defended the total very well by restricting West Indies to a modest 132 all out in 31.1 overs. The spinners shared 8 wickets between them with Mashrafe Mortaza picking up the vital wicket of Chris Gayle.
Anamul shared a record 174 run 3rd wicket partnership with skipper Mushfiqur Rahim to take the game away from West Indies who started well by picking up two quick wickets inside 7 overs. Mushfiqur scored a classy 79 from 87 deliveries but holed out to midwicket while attempting a pull shot in the batting power play.
Bangladesh lost their way slightly with the departure of Mushfiqur as they could only score 20 runs in the batting power play and lost 2 wickets, but newcomers Anamul and Mominul kept the innings together to prevent any further damage. They cut loose at the death and Bangladesh scored 68 runs in the last 5 overs of the innings to bring respectability to the total. Bangladesh innings received a major boost in the last over of the innings as Mashrafe tore apart Marlon Samuels to score 19 runs from the over. Mashrafe remained unbeaten on 18 from only 6 deliveries.
West Indies found chasing 293 to win hard on a surface that did not offer much turn and bounce, but occasionally kept low. Bangladesh bowlers led by veteran Abdur Razzak struck crucial blows within first 15 overs of the match and reduced West Indies to 65 for 4, and West Indies never recovered from their poor start. West Indies kept losing wickets at regular intervals without putting up much fight and their fate was sealed when Kieran Pollard was bowled by Naeem Islam to make the score 111 for 8. Sohag Gazi soon mopped up the tail to secure a historic victory for the hosts.
Anamul Haque was named man of the match for his maiden ODI century. Both teams will now move to Dhaka to play last 3 matches of the series. Bangladesh will take on West Indies in the 3rd match on 5th December in a day night match.

Sohag and Tamim Star in Bangladesh Win
30 November 2012 Bangladesh continued their good run of form in ODI cricket at home as they comprehensively defeated West Indies by 7 wickets in the first match of the 5-match ODI series at Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna today. Bangladesh played four debutants including man of the match Sohag Gazi and was without the service of talisman Shakib Al Hasan, but eased to victory after spinners restricted West Indies to 199 on a good surface. Sohag Gazi was again star of the show after an impressive Test debut as he picked 4 wicket for 29 runs in 9.5 overs.
Spinners shared 8 wickets between them with Abdur Razzak picking up 3 for 39 runs and Mahmdullah bagged 1 wicket for 29 runs. Bangladesh started their reply positively through Tamim Iqbal as the opening pair shared a 88 run partnership. Tamim flayed West Indies attack and raced to 58 off 51 deliveries while his opening partner Anamul Haque played a controlled 41 of 62 deliveries.
Bangladesh lost their openers with 88 runs still needed for victory, but the middle order led by Naeem Islam paced the chase brilliantly and overhauled West Indies total with 9.4 overs to spare. Naeem remained not out on 50 and was supported by Nasir Hossain who played a quick-fire 28 and Mushfiqur Rahim who remained not out on 16.
Bangladesh play their 2nd game of the series at the same venue on Sunday.
West Indies beat Bangladesh by 10 wickets in the second Test
On the back of Tino Best's career best figures of 6-40, West Indies crushed Bangladesh by 10 wickets in the second Test at Khulna. West Indies goes on to win the Test series 2-0. Result in brief: West Indies 648 for 9 dec (Samuels 260, Chanderpaul 150*, Bravo 127, Shakib 4-151) and 30 for 0 beat Bangladesh 387 (Abul 113, Mahmudullah 76, Edwards 6-90) and 287 (Shakib 97, Nasir 94, Best 6-40) by ten wickets
Bangladesh on the brink of Test defeat
24 November 2012 Bangladesh top order batsmen faltered once again by playing irresponsible shots and left too much to do for the middle order to save the second Test match at Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna today. Bangladesh slumped to 82 for 5 and was staring at an innings defeat after West Indies piled up 648 for 9, highest Test score against Bangladesh, in their first innings. Bangladesh's talismanic all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan joined with another promising youngster Nasir Hossain to start the repair job and they took Bangladesh to 226 for 5. However, a moment of madness by Shakib denied him a well deserved century as he fell to Permaul in the last over of the day 3 runs short of the three figure mark. Bangladesh still needs 35 runs to avoid innings defeat and the match may well be over before lunch on day 5 to hand a 2-0 series win to West Indies.
West Indies take command of Khulna Test
23 November 2012
West Indies batted patiently throughout day 3 to end the day on 564 for 4 and took complete control of the second Test. The visitors are now leading by 177 runs with 6 first innings wicket still remaining. Bangladesh toiled hard, but enjoyed little success as the visitors added 323 runs with the loss of only 2 wickets in an absorbing day of Test cricket. West Indies is likely take a 300 plus lead before declaring and Bangladesh will have to bat much better than their first innings to avoid yet another Test defeat.
Abul creates history with debut Test century
21 November 2012
Abul Hasan became only the second batsman in more than 100 years of Test cricket to score a Test century on debut from no 10 position as he smashed 100 not out from 106 deliveries at Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna today. This is also the third fastest century by a debutant in Test cricket. Abul's heroic innings rescued Bangladesh from a precarious 193 for 8 to a respectable 365 for 8 at the end of day one. Mahmudullah Riyad ably supported Abul with a nicely paced 72 from 89 deliveries as the pair remained unbeaten after sharing a 172 run 9th wicket partnership which itself is a Test record for Bangladesh.
Bangladesh falters at the post
Tino Best's 5-wicket haul helped West Indies beat Bangladesh by 77 runs in the first Test on Day 5 at the Sher E Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. Bangladesh only needed 245 runs for what could have been a historic win only to see them collapse to 167 all out.
This was particularly frustrating for the hosts after fighting admirably for most part of the Test match which was their first Test in a year. Bangladesh top order showed up in their usual self and batted without any plan to throw away the momentum and surrender the match without even putting up a fight in the second innings. Three of Bangladesh's top 5 batsmen got a start, but all of them played rash strokes to get out in their 20's when simple discipline was expected of them.
Bangladesh team management may find some solace by taking the Test to the last session of the match but this is no achievement considering Tigers had a realistic chance to post a historic win or draw a Test match after almost 3 years. Bangladesh must stop repeating the same old story if they want to retain their Test status and gain some respect from the opposition.
Summary: West Indies 527 for 4 dec (Chanderpaul 203*, Ramdin 126*, Powell 117) and 273 (Powell 110, Gazi 6-72) beat Bangladesh 556 (Naeem 108, Nasir 96) and 167 (Best 5-25, Permaul 3-32) by 77 runs
Bangladesh strike late to keep the match open
16 November 2012
Bangladesh posted their highest ever Test score surpassing 488 scored against Zimbabwe almost eight years ago and took a rare first innings lead against a top nation as they finished their first innings on 556 on the 4th day of the first Test at Sher E Bangla Stadium in Mirpur today. After the century of Naeem Islam, late order batsmen Mahmudullah and Nasir Hossain held Bangladesh innings together and motored along towards their first ever 500 plus score.
Nasir Hossain was unlucky to miss out on a well deserved century as he mistimed a slower ball from Tino Best to Chris Gayle at slip was dismissed on 96. Mahmudullah scored 62 which is his first half-century in almost two years.
West Indies lost Chris Gayle early on in their second innings courtesy of a inspired spell by Rubel Hossain, but first innings centurion Kieran Powell and Darren Bravo defied Bangladesh attack on a good surface and took West Indies to 209 for 1. However, Bangladesh fought back with 5 late wickets to leave all possibilities open heading into the final day of an absorbing Test match.
It was again Rubel Hossain who broke the partnership by removing Darren Bravo. Samuels was then undone by a Sohag Gazi delivery and Shakib Al Hasan picked two quick wickets to bring Bangladesh back in the match. Debutant Sohag Gazi then picked another debutant Permaul of West Indies with the last delivery of the day as Bangladesh ended the day on a high with West Indies leading by 215 runs with 4 wickets remaining.
Bangladesh have a realistic chance to restrict West Indies below 250 and try to chase the total down on a surface which is now offering some spin, but still a very good wicket to bat on.
Bangladesh enjoy a rare batting day
15 November 2012
Bangladesh made a strong case to play regular Test cricket in their very first Test innings after a 12 months absence from the elite format at Sher E Bangla Stadium in Mirpur today. Bangladesh ended day 3 on 455 for 6 with a realistic chance to post their highest ever Test score which stands at 488 at the moment. Bangladesh lost only 3 wickets in today's play and managed to score briskly, but with much needed discipline to keep West Indies at bay.
Bangladesh innings was built around a patient innings of Naeem Islam who scored his maiden Test century batting at number 4 position for the first time in his career. Naeem scored a 255 ball 108 and was ably supported by Bangladesh's talismanic all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan who scored a classy 89. Shakib was progressing towards his third Test century before momentary indecisiveness cost him his wicket on 89.
Bangladesh skipper Mushfiqur Rahim kept his calm after joining Naeem in the middle and steered Bangladesh above the follow on mark. Although he could not prolong his innings and fell to Permaul on 43, Bangladesh late middle order led by Mahmudullah resisted West Indies bowlers and kept Bangladesh in the game.
Mahmudullah and Nasir Hossain will resume their innings on 42 and 33, respectively, and Bangladesh will look towards them to get a first innings lead which looked improbable when West Indies declared their first innings on 527 for 4.
Bangladesh fight after West Indies dominance
14 November 2012
Bangladesh ended day 2 of the first Test on 164 for 3 losing three top order batsmen after West Indies amassed 527 for 4 before declaring on a placid surface at Sher E Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur today. The highlight of West Indies innings was the double ton by Shivnarine Chanderpaul who batted patiently for seven and half hours to complete his second Test double hundred. At the opposite spectrum was Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal who raced to 72 in 71 deliveries before getting out in a typical unorthodox fashion.
West Indies started 2nd day on 361/4 and did not lose any wicket in the two sessions played. Except a rare moment of lapse from Shivnarine Chanderpaul when he edged a Shohag Gazi delivery to first slip, West Indies batsmen never looked threatened by a mediocre Bangladesh bowling attack.
Bangladesh started their reply positively through Tamim Iqbal, but like many previous occasions gifted away wickets on a very good batting surface to end the day with a realistic prospect of losing control of the match only after 2nd day.
