Bangladesh fight after West Indies dominance
14 November 2012
Bangladesh ended day 2 of the first Test on 164 for 3 losing three top order batsmen after West Indies amassed 527 for 4 before declaring on a placid surface at Sher E Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur today. The highlight of West Indies innings was the double ton by Shivnarine Chanderpaul who batted patiently for seven and half hours to complete his second Test double hundred. At the opposite spectrum was Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal who raced to 72 in 71 deliveries before getting out in a typical unorthodox fashion.
West Indies started 2nd day on 361/4 and did not lose any wicket in the two sessions played. Except a rare moment of lapse from Shivnarine Chanderpaul when he edged a Shohag Gazi delivery to first slip, West Indies batsmen never looked threatened by a mediocre Bangladesh bowling attack.
Bangladesh started their reply positively through Tamim Iqbal, but like many previous occasions gifted away wickets on a very good batting surface to end the day with a realistic prospect of losing control of the match only after 2nd day.
