Dhanmondi Club registered their second successive win in the GrameenPhone
Premier Division Relegation League, beating an under-strength Brothers
Union by five wickets at the Dhanmondi Cricket Stadium yesterday.
Opener Nasimul Islam scored 64 as Dhanmondi, chasing a paltry Brothers
Union total of 167 in 50 overs, raced to 168 in only 33.1 overs. Nasimul
hit ten fours in his 82-ball innings.
Middle-order Nadim Keramat (45) and one-down Nuruzzaman (39) was the
other notable run-getters for Dhanmondi.
Brothers however appeared to have desperate to see their opponents winners.
Electing to bat first, Brothers, who excluded two veteran batsmen Harunur
Rashid and Mahbubur Rahman, could muster only 167 for 9 in 50 overs, middle-order
Towhid Hossain topscoring with 52.
Brothers captain and former national opener Athar Ali Khan batted at
number eleven and scored zero.
With that win, Dhanmondi edged past Uttara Sporting Club in the table
having raised their tally to 8 points from 13 matches. They moved to fourth
spot in the six-team league.
Brothers, however, remained atop with 14 points from 13 matches.
