1998, Bangladesh: ICC Knockout Tournament

Bangladesh has been involved with the ICC Champions Trophy since the very beginning. In it's first incarnation the tournament was purely knowckout and was known as the ICC Knockout Tournament. While Bangladesh did not participate in the inaugural tournament, this was held in Dhaka. New Zealand and Zimbabwe played against each other to determine the final team for the quarter-final stage. All other teams gained direct entry into the quarter-finals. South Africa trounce the West Indies to win the trophy.

2000, Kenya: ICC Knockout Tournament

This edition was also played in the knock out format with Kenya and Bangladesh making up the numbers. Three qualifying matches were played and the winners joined the top five teams after the Supersix stage of the 1999 World Cup into the quarter-finals. Bangladesh, Kenya and the West Indies did not make it past the qualifying round.

  England beat Bangladesh by 8 Wickets. Bangladesh: 232/8 (50); England: 236/ 2 (43.5)

New Zealand went on to win the trophy beating India in the finals.

2002, Sri Lanka: ICC Champions Trophy

The 2002 ICC Champions Trophy was held in Sri Lanka, and the 12 teams included Netherlands and Kenya. The teams were split into four pools of three teams each. Bangladesh was placed in Pool 1 alongside Australia and New Zealand and predictably lost both games. Full Coverage.

  Australia won by 9 wickets. Bangladesh 129 (45.2 ov); Australia 133-1 (20.4 ov).
• Bangladesh v New Zealand at Colombo - September 23, 2002
  New Zealand won by 167 runs. New Zealand 244-9 (50 ov); Bangladesh 77 (19.3 ov).

The final between India and Sri Lanka was washed out twice to leave no result.

2004, England: ICC Champions Trophy

The 2004 ICC Champions Trophy was held in England in September 2004. Twelve teams, including the Test nations, together with Kenya and the USA (their international debut). Bangladesh was placed in pool B along with South Africa and the West Indies and as expected lost both pool games handily. Full coverage.

• The West Indies vs Bangladesh at The Rose Bowl - September 14, 2004,
  West Indies 269-3 (50 overs) beat Bangladesh 131 (39.3 overs) by 138 runs
