Tamim fight amid ruins
13 March 2010
Bangladesh faces uphill task to avoid follow-on in the first Test as the home side ended day 2 on 154 for 5 still needing 246 runs to make England bat again. Bangladesh top-order collapsed without putting up a fight as they miserably failed to negotiate the rising deliveries from pacer Stuart Broad. Spinner Graeme Swann joined forces with Broad to wipe out the middle order and he grabbed 3 wickets including that of Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan who could manage only 1 run before getting bowled. Left-handed Tamim Iqbal tried to resist the English onslaught along with Mahmudullah Riyad, but the rest of batting line-up simply wasn't good enough to negotiate a spirited English attack. Mahmudullah perished on 51 after trying to sweep Graeme Swann but Tamim Iqbal remained unbeaten at the close of play on 81.
Earlier, England declared their first innings after piling up 599 for the loss of 6 wickets.
