BDFlag 50 YEARS of Independence

Yesterday marked 50 years of our independence and of the formation of our country.
Come celebrate with me and discuss what we have achieved as a nation and where we failed.

Our cricket board is solely responsible for this.

We are probably the only cricket board where the board president is always present during team meetings. He selects the team. He decides the strategy for the game. And the best part, he never played cricket in any capacity.

We have selectors who never attend any first-class game or domestic game (BPL aside).

We have board directors who are busy leaking confidential documents to the press and take no responsibility for their inability to host first-class or domestic tournaments.

Finally we think anyone can be captain. How can guys like Mushfique Mominul are appointed captains, and worse still, how do they continue being captains?

Mithun is miles better than the likes of Sadman or Saif Hasan. Mithun would always struggle in seaming condition but in a flat pitch he is a decent option. However I would pick Mosaddek over Mithun any day.

Leadership is an unique attribute and extremely important for any team. Imran Khans captaincy was the most important factor (beside rain) in Pakistan winning the world cup. Captaincy has nothing to do with cricketing ability in general. Musfique or Mominul are not leadership material. We can understand this from far away but our experts in cricket board are clueless.

We don't have a single player capable of leading the side. Why else would all of Tamim, Mushfiq, and Mominul suck at it? Its not just coincidence.

Mashrafe was a decent leader...probably about average on a global standard. But he looks like a genius because he was preceded and followed by the meekest leaders in all of professional sport.

Its a societal problem. Bangladeshis are too emotional, too selfish, and too short-sighted to make for good leadership qualities.

I am personally very disappointed with how peaceful protesters are killed in the name of democracy and freedom.

People occupying mosques with sticks and stones. Setting fire on cultural establishment (just because Islam does not permit music), setting fire on train station and trucks and busses (even after hartal hours), occupying and capturing police stations etc, deserves to be shot (atleast with rubber bullets).

I am not condoning setting fires or damaging public property, proper legal action is to be taken for anybody violating such rules. The protest was against Modi and guess what USA denied this man entry into their country back in 2006 under George W. Bush because he has blood in his hands and no we don't deserve rubber bullet for disagreeing with you. If you genuinely think so, I dare I say, who is the intolerant one here?

After 50 years of independence we have surpassed Pakistan in many sectors. Our economy is rising slowly, illiteracy rate is going down. We have built Padma bridge, We have won the ocean, our infrastructures are improving. Many foreign investors are coming to BD to invest. These are something we should be proud of.

After 50 years we survived as fully functioning rising country.

50 years ago we were categorized as 'basket case' after breaking apart from Pakistan doomed to either being swallowed by India, begging Pakistan to take us back or a failed state.

Doesn't still excuse the fact corruption is high, we have an effective dictator and we are influenced by neighboring countries.

You can protest and disagree as much as you want. However you cannot set public property on fire, throw bricks and stones at police and expect no retaliation.
Modi visited Bangladesh before and there weren't any protest from Hefazat. So you
have to ask what changed?

I am not sure since when we Bangladeshis became such morally superior people. Even someone like Shakib al Hasan has to apologize in public after getting death threats for visiting a Mandir. For 30 years since liberation, we have forcefully confiscated Hindu properties under "Vested Property Act. Even to this day, there are incidents where whole hindu community is forced off their land and their houses destroyed by mobs based on rumors and FB posts.

On the other hand, have you ever seen Hefazat doing anything to protect children from being raped in Madrasah's? Do you know there has been 626 reported cases of child rape inside Madrassahs in Bangladesh just in 2020? You ask any Mullah and they would say "Bichiino ghotona" .. Denying child rape is not only shameful but also criminal. Modi is not a problem for Bangladesh, Islamists are the problem.

Finally, I am sure you have heard about the recent incident with Mamunul haque (hafazot leader) and his alleged second wife. Personally I have no problem what they were doing in their own private space with each other's consent (they are both consenting adults). While we Bangladeshis are more worried about the morality of the incident, No one talks about the fact that his alleged wife was married to another man at the age of 9. We destroyed that girls life. Her parents and her previous husband should be jailed. We Bangladeshis are just blinded by political and religious hatred and nothing else.

The other day I heard a story about Madrasa Mollas. All those Madrasa teachers who act very pious, have big beard, have tasbih in hand, always pray tahazzud are pedophiles. 95% of them. They pretend to be devoutly religious so that they can hide their heinous act. And they do fulfill their sick desire inside mosques right before fazar prayer.

This was so painful for me to hear. May Allah punish them severely

Cons
------
we have become corrupt to the core. We are now know as chor-batparer desh. Everyone everywhere is shamelessly corrupt. If something reaches the media, everyone has a ready-made line - Amader kachey jodi kuno complaint ashey, amra oboshshoi ta todonto korey dekhbo.

Corrupt govt one after another as politicians keep linings their pockets.
Corrupt police and RAAB - lack of justice system
Widespread bhejal in food
Every possible way of tricking / scamming people are being used by crooks
New culture of call-girls, prostitution areas and luichcha buiras in private offices who sexually harrass younger girls.
Culture of husband and wife must both work and thus kids are upto no good after school as they are on their own.
Nongrami in media behind closed doors ( Lux photogenic , etc. )
Rape happens too frequently.
Political goons are untouchable and can do whatever they want.
Situation is so bad in the country that most people have escaped abroad to make a life.
Biased ruthless politics
No proper govt public transport system ( trains and buses )
No proper garbage collection or system
Old airport left to us by Pakistanis

Pros
-----
Garments industry
People are no longer poor
Beggars are difficult to find
LPG use by vehicles
Abundance of shopping malls
Abundance of restaurants
Abundance of cars being used by everyone
4G
Everyone has mobile phones
We have multiple BD channels now
Bangabandhu satellite
Cricket team
Cricket stadiums
Biman is now a decent airline ( I still wouldn't fly it though )
Food is plentiful

Good post Shingara. To that I would add a dictatorship regime and rise of religious fundamentalism.

Couple of things I forgot to add
- We have failed to deport all the Biharis
- We have imported plenty of Rohingyas with no plan of how to get them back
- The govt. does not care / has failed to nurture it's youth. Unemployment remains high and we do not have an effective workforce. While our neighboring country exports engineers and IT personnel, we are still stuck at exporting cleaners and maids.
