Are you on hard line or mobile?

It's common for a page load to be slow once in a while (happens to likes of amazon and ebays), but it should be fast as an overall experience. You shouldn't have every other page load slowly.

Did you do a browser refresh? In general if you refresh a site; i.e. hitting browser refresh button; it will always respond slower. Refresh will force browser to redownload all content; i.e. all code, images, styles and everything (even all the avatars that are in the thread).

You would want to use the links that are on the forum itself for navigation (or browser's back/forward buttons). If you do want to "referesh" the thread without hitting refresh, you can click on the "Last >>" link on the thread paging link

In any event, not sure if your situation is unique, but I did try several refresh on random pages. Didn't notice any extra delay that would be out of norm. You can expect an average refresh to take 2 to 10 seconds.

Yeah. It's a bit annoying. They are being served by the respective sites (Google, FB, and twitter).

NOt much we can do other than removing them, but let's wait it out a while. The most popular is also the slowest to render (Facebook).

I have few years worth of on-hand experience with optimizing sites (my own) getting anywhere between 500k-1mil page views per week. All that running on lowly $20/m server. Making a site run fast is not rocket science if you know what you are doing.

Like a lot of people mentioning here, I too often find BC load horribly (from whichever country I login). Most of the time its hard to say what the problem is, it could be server side (php running withput opcode cache or mysql without memcache or unoptimized) it could be front-end (no cdn, unresponsive bloated js, non-minified, non-gziped static files). Whatever. There are 100s of ways you can optimize a site.

But one of the worst offenders is the number of DNS queries a browser has to make due to external static file (js, css, images), which would also include social widgets like twitter/g+/facebook that you guys decided to put on every single forum post as opposed to each thread or each page (which is bad enough). Every single post means how many DNS queries are being made per page client side?

My suggestion would be to remove the social crap (who is going to use it on a forum?) and make everyone's life a little bit easier.

Thanks for your comments. I am happy that your $20 site is giving you bang for the buck. Unfortunatly bc doesn't have that luxury, we are still running on $5 site.

To add to that - the problem doesn't seem to be server related thats making the site slow. Its client-side. So it wouldn't make much difference if you are running a beefed up dedicated server - if you don't cut down on the runaway DNS or unresponsive js widget.

Would make no difference at all...

SImplify would be my recommendation.

Oh ok so it's not only me... What I did today is changed my post per page to 10 and it's loading much faster.. I think the ads are actually taking time to load as they are using flash Iguess...

Adsense already does asynchronous loading of ads. So it shouldn't slow down your load time. For Google analytics, you should do async loading; as it is usually a big culprit for slow load time.

Removing the social buttons made the site much faster as it is.
