Mathamota Papon is picking a fight with IPL over Ireland tour, a tour where backup players should be tried anyway. BCCI and IPL owners are not taking it kindly.

Bangladesh players could face SHADOW Ban at IPL 2024 Auction as BCCI & Franchises NOT HAPPY with BCB on players’ NOC
Quote:
“It is what it is. We can’t complain because it’s the BCCI that negotiates with other boards. But of course, franchises will be sceptical about picking players from certain countries. If you see, Taskin (Ahmed) did not get the NOC and now this. If they don’t want their players to play, they should not register. But, for sure, the perception about Bangladeshi players will change in future,” a franchise official told InsideSport

“It is completely up to the players to convince their boards. England, New Zealand and other prominent boards have figured out a way to maintain the status quo. Nobody can deny the popularity of IPL and by releasing players, boards get their share as well. But if they decide otherwise, it is up to them,” a senior BCCI official told InsideSport.
Our players getting exposure at IPL would have ultimately benefited our national team, especially given that World Cup is in India this year. Unfortunately, Papon and Co are too shortsighted to realize that.

I don't think so. I think Bangladesh has actually benefitted by BCCI/IPL undervalueing our players and not picking them for IPL. We don't want to field weakened sides because all our players are playing in the IPL.

How do BD actually benefit from not having players in IPL? It's a big problem if you can't come up with a competitive side missing couple of players.

I highly favor our players participation in it (as long as they are not benched). I want our Batsman to feature there. You have to be a top dawg to feature as a batsman from foreign quota.

I want to see LITON playing in ipl. Not against ireland.

upcoming ODI world cup, it will be very high scoring matches... we need to develop batsman so no total would seem impossible to chase.

I am a Liton super fan. This guy is gonna bring us the CUP.

How is that Bangladesh benefited if we still have to field our full strength team against Ireland and Zimbabwe, instead of taking those opportunities to try out backup players?!

England came without some of their key players and still won the ODI series in our own backyard (granted they went too far going with only four specialist batters+Moeen in the T20I series). If we're to grow out of our minnow phase, we got to give our players opportunities to gain experience in the top leagues around the world. I understand there got to be some balance, we can't let the players walk away from international duties whenever they want. But a fairly meaningless series against Ireland should not deprive them of IPL exposure.

I think the BPL actually does more harm than good as it is quite mismanaged in almost every single department.

To be good at t20 it can’t be all that bowler friendly. I don’t think the players even practice fielding properly.

I think they should get school kids to come in and fill the empty seats.

They even get this unsmart chap Shamim at the presentation ceremony.

Only argument against ipl would be injury. Mustafiz went through that. And it would feel unfair for us to develop players only to play ipl get injured and not provide national duty.

But I agree with eshen, part of being a good employer would be to let our players play in quality t20 toruramnet. Given the international talent in IPL, it's a privilege for our players to be there. And let them earn top money so they are happy.

ICC discussing possibility of Pakistan play their ODI WC matches in Bangladesh. Well can Bangladesh then play all their matches in Mirpur also??

BCB announced ODI squad for Ireland tour (to be played at Chelmsford, England, from May 9):

Tamim Iqbal (capt), Litton Das, Rony Talukdar, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Towhid Hridoy, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Yasir Ali, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taijul Islam, Ebadot Hossain, Shoriful Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, Hasan Mahmud, Mrittunjoy Chowdhury

IN: Taijul, Mrittunjoy
OUT: Nasum, Taskin

Taskin is rested due to injury concern. Looking forward to MJoy's international debut. Yasir is persisted with, in place of Riyad, for one more series. Back and forth between Taijul and Nasum continues.

MJoy was bowling consistently at 145-148K range in BPL. It would be interesting to see his speeds in International ODI.

^^MJoy bowls faster nowadays, but I don't think he's that fast yet. BPL speed guns were ridiculous.

I would say Riyad has nothing to prove against Ireland. The ODI team have been carrying Yasir for last five years or so. It's about time they give him an extended run to prove himself. If he does well, good, we no longer need Riyad. If he continues to do poorly, then we have Riyad or Afif to fall back to.

A quick FYI: one of the Afghanistan tests has been scrapped

Not sure if it has been mentioned.

Edit: Not sure how reliable the source is:

It looks like Riad put the final nail in the coffin for the Afg ODI series by deciding to do Hajj. He is definitely not playing in the WC. It sucks because he was among the higher run-getters for team bd. I would have swapped his position with Mushy and Mushy down the order since he seems to be able to fulfill it now. Cross your finger and hope Hridoy puts on a show of a lifetime because he is technically in the team at the expense of Riad.

I agree. But since we are horrible at tests, it might be a good training lesson. No point approaching limited over formats with false sense of confidence. This might bring us down a peg or two.

SL just got handed a trashing loss even after scoring 268 (similar to what bd usually scores in ODI). Do we have a stronger bowling attack then SL? lol

SL are a garbage team and our bowling attack is easily a top 5 bowling attack in ODIs. I think only India has a clearly better bowling attack than ours in ODIs.

Well BD batsmen will be putting up challenging total of 245. So we would need very good bowling attack to defend lol.
