Former Black Caps coach blames senior players for failure

Updated at 7:11pm on 15 October 2010
"The former New Zealand Cricket coach Warren Lees is blaming the Black Caps senior players for the side's failure in Bangladesh.
The Black Caps have become the first test playing nation to lose a one day series to the minnows of world cricket, after going down by nine runs in Mirpur last night.
Lees says skipper the top order of Brendan McCullum, Ross Taylor, Jesse Ryder and skipper Dan Vettori need to take repsonsiblity for scoring runs.
He says while Kane Williamson's effort in becoming the youngest batsman to score a one day century for New Zealand should be applauded, those types of performances are a bonus.
Lees says the top order should be cashing-in in Bangladesh as the Black Caps are better players, but they appear to lack any sense of a plan when they're batting and they've simply been beaten by a more disciplined side."

Factually wrong and does not give the respect where it is due!

Technically, they are stronger than us and should have won the series. There's no reason why they shouldn't feel ashamed of themselves. Just as we should be ashamed of losing to the Netherlands, no matter how well they played. If we're better than them on pen and paper, we should beat them in reality, no excuses.

From New Zealand's POV, they've sunk to a new low and it doesn't matter that we played well, because they should have played better than us.

Latecut vai, I think you are overreacting TBH. We already have earned many people's respect, but not everyone's opinion will change overnight.

technically, this is not disrespect.

had we beaten bermuda, the bermudan coach/skipper would have said the same thing i.e "our top order didn't score as they should have and our bowlers didn't put the ball in the correct areas".

disrespect is if after this NZ balks at playing us, or if anyone of their establishment questions our place.

disrespect would be to blame lack of practice matches (when they got to play on the match wickets, totally over-riding the practice match shortfall) or talk about missing some players (since we've already beaten them with their missing stars, and have stars missing ourselves).

Warren Lee makes sense. NZ has gone from a solid ODI outfit (I believe they had the opportunity at one point to be number 1 if they could beat AUS 3-0 in a series) down to #7. Uptill now BD had not done anything to suggest that we were more than a once in a blue moon winner. From a Kiwi perspective, they need to to analyze what went wrong.

Maybe they'll bounce back like we did after losing to NED and IRE.

We are doing what we need to, win games.
Fair and simple.

Agree with Mr. Asif said. They have every right to be upset. We might not take this as a surprise (even though some of us were not expecting a series win), as we know our teams capability, but to them, it's a shocker.

If we lose to Zim today (Allah na koruk) we would be disgusted and embarrassed.

And we can merge this thread with NZ newspaper thread

How about this maybe we were to good for the new Zealand team n the black caps tried there best however our players are simply better then them, it's the least the players deserve after a great performance.

How about you say the same thing about our losses against IRE & NED?

He wouldn't be entirely wrong if he did.

To earn respect, we need to get India to agree to play against us. It's actually harder than beating their team.

Lol who cares? Why do we need to earn their so-called "respect"? Their humiliation is enough respect as it is. Seriously, the Zimbabwe series will be more interesting than this. Their batsmen will cope much better than NZ could.

Who gives a sh!t about what they say?

One can see the fear in their eyes or the trembling of their fingers. That's all we need. A pat in the back, saying "well played", is what we get after an honourable defeat. Remember, winners can afford charity, losers can not.

I think you cant just earn respect overnight. You have to be consistent enough to get that. One series win is just not enough to consider us a big team. Its a fact. If BD can win few overseas series things will be different. But good days are knocking on the door

i think in cricket world, people only remember win

how many times, we had close contest with top ranked team and couldnt win but cricket countries think we are not capable of

this series win is a definitely an answer to all those so called critics:

some known bangla basher: david hook, ken rutherford (NZ), marvan atapattu, (basit ali, saqlain mustaq, javed miandad from pakistan)

Lee is simply explaining - why we lost against Netherlands and...I don't even recall the other nation.

This is similar to us losing Ireland and Holland. What did we say during that time? Did we give due credit to Holland and Ireland? Or did we blast our players?

Dear Latecut, the answer to these question should answer your query.
