Default BBC: Bangladesh take control

Tour match, Harare, day one of three (stumps):
Zimbabwe A 71-5 v Bangladesh 199 all out

Shariar Hossain dug in for Bangladesh with the bat

Seamer Alangir Kabir grabbed four wickets late on to give Bangladesh the advantage over Zimbabwe A on day one of a three-day warm-up.

The tourists were dismissed for 199 in an average display with the bat but reduced Zimbabwe A to 71-5 at stumps.

Alangir returned 4-24 in a nine-over spell that destroyed the top-order.

A rearguard innings by Shariar Hossain - in which he faced 174 balls and hit eight boundaries - was the cornerstone of Bangladesh's innings.

Lower down, Monjural Islam Rama made a valuable contribution of 40 as his colleagues collapsed around him.

Habibul Bashar was one of three top-order Bangladesh batsmen given out through controversial decisions. He made 10 before falling leg-before.

Zimbabwe spearhead Douglas Hondo was their most successful bowler with figures of 3-19.

Trevor Gripper, a Zimbabwe Test hopeful, was unbeaten on 25 at the close of play and looking sound.

If the home side lose him early on the second day, Bangladesh can look forward to a confidence-boosting victory ahead of the first Test in Harare starting on 19 February.

well well...3 controversial decisions against our batters! Had it not happened, bangladesh would have scored some more odd runs.

I am not disappointed about 199 all out. Shahriar Bidyut shows his consistancy, Ashraful seems to came out of his bat patch, Habibul can fire in any given day, even our second string bowlers are back to business by taking quick wickets. The whole scinario is very positive for us before the up coming 1st test. Never give up, Bangladesh!

About the 3 controversial decisions:

We have to always remember that umpires are - shobsomoy mukhiye thake amader batsmander out korar jonyo, so if I were Whatmore, I would tell those 3 batsman to defend properly or not to WOOOSH at balls and give the umpires chances to give themselves out.

For example, from my memory of Javed Omar's out against England (umpire was currently retired Ashoka De Silva), although Javed Omar nicked the ball and the ball was on line, I would have told Javed Omar as to why he would have to play the ball in such a way so that it looked like a candidate for an lbw, why couldn't he play it straight - defending witha straight bat.

Similarly, for example, if Habibul Bashar is given out caught behind while slashing at a ball (in fact the bat had not touched the ball) then in that case, I would tell Bashar why to go after the ball that was supposed to be left alone.

I'm worried about sumon. Hope captency will not reduce his performance. But the team has to find some way to improve batting performance. its the bowlers who always try to make things better.

I just imagined Bashar's out, with no base; because the only example that I could think of, of a player who slashes at outside the off, is Bashar.

all 3 of those decisions were against 3 top order batters.

anyways... think we have to take it as a part of the game, and battle on.

Default Sumon hunted a duck today

Even though a BD got a 188 lead after day 2, my hunch of sumon going out of form because of captancy is getting scarrier. Hopefully day 3 will go for bangladesh. Lets start with a win against A team. And keep going.
