The conundrum of Aftab
Personally, I believe Aftab Ahmed is the one certainty that needs to be brought back into the ODI team. I certainly believe he would strengthen our lineup. His hitting ability is unquestionable despite his lack of a temperament. He still has the ability to stroke some quick runs and reality is that a score of around 250+ are what we should be looking at and he has the ability to score at a run-a-ball.
Im wondering where people think he should slot back into the team.
(Btw, I just had to say how pathetic Aftab's bowling is. He should be banned from bowling for BD)

i think he can play in any form, test, odi or t20 ....... only if he performs. the good thing about him is that he can make good bowlers look ordinary in his day. i can remember him hitting Ntini for consecutive 6s, a superb 82 n.o. in a test in england when none around him could stand up to that bowling attack.
but then again, he has to perform now, and show us that he can replace one of the current guys and deserve a place with consistent big scores.

Aftab needs to take a long hard look at Mahmadullah, and then score some serious runs in the local first class competition.

Agreed. That's the only possible guy he can fight for a place with, and at the moment, I'd take Mahmudullah over him.

National team is no place for charity. Perform something decent first, selectors will automatically notice.

I also disagree...Aftab's done nothing to deserve a recall and don't see him leapfrogging past SN and AK to become a contender.

May be he is special to you and some, but for others Taposh Bhaisob mey be very special, and for others Alok or Aftab
So how can I be in peace when Ash grab all the charity and others get none? With this kind of unfair treatment, there will be no peace, never !!!

Hmm, I also want Bagh mama to give some good halums to Ashraful. Maybe he'll get scared and start performing more consistently. Just that he's special, IMO we can spare one spot for his eids.
Problem is, Bagh mama is a poorer fakir than me, don't have any guts.

It is clear that batting position #2,#3,and position of Mahmudullah/Naeem is the weakest point of our batting line up.Though Ash is not doing well in no 3 still it will be tough for Aftab to grab the position as SN is competing as well.So he can try for #2 or in lower middle order. Its a tough job though still i hope best for Aftab.

his bowling isn't good enough to take the spot of naeem or riyad which means it's either opener or #3, why would you pick aftab when you have ash and alok who are both more likely to play bigger innings more often and who also offer more with the ball? one plus side to aftab is that he bowls pace, but if his bowling isn't good enough to bowl him then that becomes irrelevant. not forgetting imrul and SN who are also incontention for spots.

if aftab continues to consistently score 50s, i see no reason why we can't recall him. he's a player of quality albeit lacking in temperement. but still a quickfire 30 from him can always be more than handy.

Yes a regular 30 would, with frequent 50+ scores as well. But regular 20s will not suffice with once in blue moon 50s and no hope for 100s.
Also note that his hitting ability has also vanished. Lately he plays with a SR of 60 or below, and same old string of 20s as scores.
The bowling - well I hope BD is never represented with that kind of bowling in ODIs!
I do however hope that he can get his hitting abilities back and aim at T20s. He is one of those players who can make a difference there, as our T20 side is terribly weak.
For those who are recommending him at No.3. I would consider SN before him as SN is still making a case by scoring runs in domestic. Then there is Alok who is in better form than Aftab of late with his batting. Not to mention Imrul and others as well.
Basically he needs to better himself, and surely a century or two in domestic with a higher average would do him good.
To be honest I started disliking him when he made that one comment in one of the games where he was quoted saying that he has done enough after scoring 30 or so. I forget the original story, but since then I have been noticing his scores. Up until he spoke, he was just mixing in the crowd of then. Rite now we have better players both in the team and in the fringes.
Lets hope Aftab proves all of us wrong and comes back all guns blazing as he is clearly "capable of"!

Aftab could replace Ash though depends..
SN to replace Zunaed and Alok could take the 3rd spot too.. Ash has to go home
