Bashar's Poll: voice your opinion
One must think of his form, age and his state of mind. He is desperate to hold on to his position and will not give up by any means (at least that’s the indication we are getting). This is the first step to get the team divided. Players supporting him (JO, Pilot are very influential) would create a rift between the board, selectors and players. We have seen this happening in every professional team be it football or cricket. So keeping everything in mind I ask what is your view and how do you want this to play out. There is a poll. You can only choose one. I have voted for him to be dropped from all of international cricket even though I know that will not happen now. That is my stance.

Some guy in Daily Star wrote in letters to the editor which pretty much summed up my feelings about Bashar's captaincy.
Poor captaincy!
Rezaul Abid , On e-mail
What kind of a captain would lose a winning match by placing his fielders in all the wrong places? Which captain would not ask his bowlers to deliver short balls when the striking batsman is relying on a runner? Bring him out; create some opportunities for your bowler and keeper. Build the pressure on such a striker by closing in. Instead, you spread the fielders further out. Were you thinking? It was an ODI match not a fund raising event. It seems our captain has no clue as to how to strategize a game of cricket based on conditions on a given day. Instead, he has the tendency to rely more on fluke (some call it stroke of luck) than anything else. For this reason, our neighbouring cricket playing countries along with big teams like Australia and England continue to treat us like minnows.
Habibul Bashar, would you please wake up and smell the air around you? It is time for you to redeem yourself by showing some true captaincy. Do not rely on good luck alone; rely on your team and avail the opportunity that the other 10 players of your team create for you.
You can start by stopping scoring ducks and not getting run out like a schoolboy learning to play cricket.

He is useless in ODI, nobody will disagree. in test? well, we need to wait few more days. but my personal thinking he is a hopeless in all sorts of cricket (ODI, test, FC, parar cricket, etc.). he better retires from both ODI and test.

for sure, nobody wants him in the team, but he (Bashar) is a shame less person. I think still you remember after getting weird run outs in the WC he was smiling.

Ouch, a bit too harsh : hopeless in street cricket)..He needs to stick around Bng cricket for a little longer. He has to be there as a father figure...There is the coach, but on the field it is Bashar himslef, and Rafique..For ODI and test, he needs to be there for little longer...He needs his concentration back..There were games, and times during a game where his captaincy seemed stratigic, and usefull in the end-even during the WC 2007..He just needs to bat for the team, and use his brain (which is there) for the team..

Instead of the 70 ft long bat, someone please make a 70 ft long speaker. If we all scream thru that, may be then the sound wave will reach Bashar's ear. Nothing else seem to work.

I wanna see if he has anything to give in test cricket. So i voted for him to only a test player. As a captain he already proved he has nothing to give.

I would prefer voting after seeing him in a test match.... anyways.. here is what I had to say about him in other thread.
Quote:
I don't know if many of you remember, after Tamims inclusion in team before WC, I said, Tamim is a gamble we must take if we want to make it to the second round... and yes, it paid off. We have to take one more gamble, a brave decision, ask Bashar to step down nicely or kick him out.
I was in South Africa during WC 2003 onward for study purposes. I saw how the whole country went against making Smith the Cap after the world cup. However, right after that, England tour, he scored two back to back double hundreds... nowadays... he is one of the toppest captains after Ponting.
To sum up, I would like to say again, take a gamble, Ask him to leave, because we can not afford to play with 10 players anymore!!!

I voted for Test captain and ODI retired/dropped. Although I dislike the idea of having two different captains for the ODI and Test side, for the time being it seems like the best solution to getting him off the ODI side and see what he can still offer in Tests.

Bashar doens't want to retire because of money!! they earn lot of money from match fees + bonus for winning. so i see him as a greed. and i think this is the reason of changing his mind from retiring!!

I had to vote "Other" becasue:
Habibual Bashar may be going through a bad patch with his batting.
So, I don’t care if he stays both in the ODI and Test Team.
What I absolutely don’t want to see is him doing captaincy in any form of cricket.
Not even in his neighborhood informal club teams.
He was handed captaincy because there was no one around to take charge and the team objective was sort of “Earning Honorable Defeat”. But that’s not the case now—we want the team to try hard to win games even when they are certainly going down. Bashar is not a captaincy material for the new era.
I’ll am willing to give time to Batsman Bashar to regain form.
But if I see Captain Bashar still hanging around, I would pray for Bangla Bhai to come alive and take charge.

drop him from the national side. make way for the upcoming rising stars. there are plenty of them. they could use the experience for 2011 WC for a start.
