ICC Under-19 World Cup, 2007/08
Whatmore to coach India at U-19 World Cup
Cricinfo staff
December 30, 2007
Dav Whatmore, director of operations at India's National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore, has been appointed coach of the Under-19 side at next year's junior World Cup.
Whatmore will conduct a ten-day training camp at the NCA ahead of the ICC U-19 World Cup, to be held in Malaysia from February 17 to March 2.
Whatmore oversaw Sri Lanka's rise in the mid '90s - seeing a side with varied talents develop into a cohesive unit - and guided them to the 1996 World Cup title. Apart from two stints in Sri Lanka, Whatmore has also coached Lancashire in the English County Championship, and Bangladesh, whom he groomed into a fighting one-day unit. He guided them to the Super Eights in the recent World Cup but decided not to renew his contract when it expired a month later.

Not hiring Dav as India coach is a indirect insult towards Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, the Indians are implying that anyone can coach us, pathetic Indians making Kirsten who has no direct coaching experience their national coach ahead of Whatmore. Anyway Dav good luck, coz youre gonna need it when u face Bangladesh U-19s
